Make: The Voice of the Maker Movement www.makezine.com Make Community is the source for the maker movement. We exist to fulfill all of these needs.

We publish a quarterly magazine, books, and special issue publications, host annual Maker Faires around the country, maintain a dynamic website, and much more. All of these efforts are done by DIY enthusiasts for fellow DIY enthusiasts. We believe that everyone is a "maker," but not everyone is aware of this fact. Can centuries-old ceramic craftsmanship and cutting-edge electronics speak the same language?

In Anouk Wipprecht’s hands, absolutely.

For the fourth and final Formula 1 Dutch Grand Prix, the FashionTech pioneer teamed up with artist-producer Don Diablo to reimagine Royal Delft’s hand-painted trophies with something unexpected: light.

Anouk designed the winner’s and constructor’s trophies using Royal Delft’s traditional ceramic techniques alongside specially developed electroluminescent material embedded into the designs.

The result is more than decoration. It’s technology being used to give a centuries-old medium an entirely new form of expression.

We’ve followed Anouk’s work at Make: for more than a decade, from FashionTech to robotic couture, and seeing her bring that same experimental thinking to Delft Blue porcelain is a wonderful reminder that a maker’s skills don't have to stay in one medium.

And yes, she engineered a dress to complement the trophy, too.

🚁 How light can an FPV drone be?

In Make: Volume 98, Scott Stevenson demonstrates how to build a remarkably lightweight 65mm brushless FPV whoop that comes in at just 13.5–14 grams, less than three nickels.

Using off-the-shelf components, careful weight reduction, and some precise soldering, this project walks through every step of the build, from modifying the flight controller to configuring the finished drone in Betaflight.

If you're an FPV enthusiast or just enjoy seeing clever engineering in action, it's a fascinating read.
