Meet Dune, a 1 year old Australian Shepherd. Like many dogs his age, he’s working through very normal puppy behaviors including jumping, whining, pulling, chewing, and being a bit pushy.
In this session, we focused on polite greetings and helping Dune stay engaged and calm in a loud, high-energy home environment. With kids playing games like Simon Says nearby, it created the perfect opportunity to practice focus around movement, noise, and excitement. This type of controlled distraction is a great way to build impulse control and teach a dog how to think before reacting.
Next session, we’ll begin transferring these skills outside the home. Building calm focus at home is an important foundation for success on walks, in parks, and in social environments.

Meet Bugsy. A 33 pound frenchie who worked with us this weekend on his leash skills and greeting people inside the home. Bugsy likes to stop and “put on the brakes” when you’re walking somewhere he doesn’t want to go. With a slip lead to teach him correct leash pressure and handling of the leash in one session we taught the family walks can be easy and enjoyable for everyone. Bugsy had the biggest smile and gave all the love when his first session was over. Check back for progress videos when he completes his training course! This week our Adventure Class group worked hard on building real-world confidence in a busy environment. As well-rounded dog owners, especially in our area, we love bringing our companions along wherever we go — and that means helping them stay calm and focused no matter what’s happening around them.
For today’s warm-up, we practiced “down/stays” and “sit/stays” in high-traffic spots, while handlers guided their pups through real-life distractions like servers, shoppers, and people stopping and talking about them excitedly. The goal? Social outings and environmental neutrality — teaching our dogs that the world is an adventure, not a stressor. 🌎🐕
💬 Tell us — where do you love taking your dog for a relaxed outing?
