“Vortex”
31” x 50” oil on canvas
Brooks Anderson 2025
“Vortex” was one of those paintings that captured me for its duration on my easel, and I gave it everything I had. Yin and Yang composition, the moment before a big wave breaks, and the end of a journey for a force of energy that had traveled for hundreds, if not thousands, of miles on the ocean surface. I’ve included a few detailed photos, showing that the painting can look abstract up close, and as a complete symphony taken in as a whole. This painting will be on view at Sue Greenwood Fine Art in Laguna Beach.

“Morning Sequence (Modernism)”
40” x 60” oil on panel
2025 Brooks Anderson
Evocative, provocative, complex, imminent, quiet meditations… this is where I dwell with my landscapes in this current series. The overall arrangement of earth tones countered with the cooling turquoise is the first thing the eye senses. Then, there’s this four-panel narrative, as if four Japanese screens - each one, a painting unto itself. This painting will be on view soon at Skidmore Contemporary Art in Laguna Beach.

“Portal (High Desert)”
48” x 36” oil on canvas
2025 Brooks Anderson
The challenge came in: with a few completed horizontal, panoramic paintings of Route 66 subject matter, do one that’s vertical. Job done. With a hovering thunderhead in the background, this deserted truck stop from west Texas proved to be a riveting, perfect subject. This painting will be on its way to Sue Greenwood Fine Art in Laguna Beach for a show entitled “LAND AND SEA,” opening July 22nd. Sue Greenwood Fine Art

This new painting will be part of next month’s big landscape show, “Echoes of the American West: Landscapes, Lives, and Legacy,” at Washington Street Gallery in Waco, Texas. This piece, for me, is complex in its own simplicity, exemplifies a strong composition, and is evocative in its title. I am proud to be part of this grand, seminal show.

Refreshments and delicious hors d'oeuvres will be served before I speak about my new work. To attend, please send me an RSVP by DM.
I'll be looking forward to seeing you, Brooks

“Immaculate (Mid Century)”
24” x 60” oil on canvas
2024Brooks Anderson
A further exploration of a juxtaposition of the natural world with the contemporary. I have chosen the title of “Immaculate” as a reference to the religious art of the Renaissance. Raphael was a key proponent of utilizing the holy triangle shape in his compositions, as did other painters of the time. Here, it is in the form of a cactus in this composition, with a backdrop of the clean lines of mid century modern architecture. Spirituality in the modern context continues to drive my work. This piece will be on view at Skidmore Contemporary Art in Palm Desert this October for a group landscape show. Skidmore Contemporary Art
