Not sure what to expect from a no-cost wildfire assessment? Here's the quick breakdown 👇
When a SoCoAdapts Fire Prevention Specialist visits your Lower Russian River home:
👣 They walk your whole property
🔍 They check your defensible space: Zones 0, 1, and 2
🏡 They look at your roof, gutters, vents, siding, deck, and fencing
📋 They provide you a written report with specific next steps for your property
🚪 Not home? They assess from the street and leave a door hanger with your report code
For homes in forested communities like ours, they specifically look for debris against the structure, older vents, wood siding, and uphill terrain that can speed fire toward your home.

Storm drains connect Streets to Creeks. When we think of storm drains we think of rainwater.
But what about wind? Most people don't realize that potential pollutants can also get into our creeks and storm drains by wind.
The good news is there’s a lot we can do, with some simple changes, that will have great impact. StreetsToCreeks.org/south-sonoma-county/

Stay safe, stay informed!
🌳 Did you know that trees over your roof and wooden fences could pose a fire risk?
🔥 Protect your home by keeping branches clear and considering safer fence materials. Safety first in wildfire zones!
Two of the most common issues we’re seeing right now are above your home—and attached to it.
1. Trees over your roof
Overhanging branches can drop embers and create direct ignition risks.
2. Fences connected to your home
Wood fences can carry fire straight to your structure.
What to do:
• Trim back branches so nothing is hanging over your roof
• Maintain vertical clearance to reduce ember buildup and ignition risk
• Replace the first 5 feet of wood fencing where it connects to your home
• Use non-combustible materials to break the fire pathway
• Inspect regularly: these are now major focus areas in insurance inspections
These aren’t theoretical risks—we’re seeing them come up again and again.
Add these to your priority list.
