Some bonds are meant to be. ❤️ Before Patty ever met Tim, she just knew he was “it.” Patty and her husband, Gerry, made signs upon picking Tim up that read “Team Tim, Road Trip!” They just knew he was meant to be part of their family.
They were right.
Today, Patty and Tim are a one of our volunteer team, making an extraordinary difference at Northwood Children's Services in Duluth, Minnesota, where children and teens receive residential mental health treatment.
Together, they bring comfort, confidence and hope to clients and staff each day. Patty and Tim have been celebrated as "Support Staff of the Month," and we're equally excited to celebrate this dynamic duo!
One young client shares just how much Tim has meant to them during their healing journey: “… I had a hard time in family therapy and had to tell the truth about something I’d kept a secret for a long time. I didn’t even want to tell the truth, but then, Tim came around and laid on my legs, and I felt the courage and Strength. He makes me feel like a better me… I don’t think I’d be able to say in family therapy, if it wasn’t for Tim.”
Stories like this remind us that healing can begin with something as simple as a warm presence and a gentle paw. Thank you, Patty, and Tim, for sharing your heart and making a profound impact on the lives of the children and families you serve. Sometimes, the best journeys begin with knowing you loved someone before you even met them.
At Canine Companions, our core mission is to provide service dogs and facility dogs to our community. However, we also have who make a difference in their special ways as pets - and they're delighted to fulfill that role!
In fact, more than one-third of dogs released from our service dog training program have gone on to serve as therapy dogs, spreading more smiles, cuddles and happiness across the country. 🥰

🛫 Did you know we have volunteers who fly our puppies across the country?
This , we'd like to thank and recognize volunteers in our Aviation Partners program for making sure our future safely arrive in the arms of their volunteer puppy raisers!
Volunteer pilots have been incredible partners allowing our pups to travel with more flexibility in timing and scheduling - factors that greatly help us plan out their travel. 🛩️

Today, we're thrilled to recognize and thank Christine Leahy! Christine began volunteering with us in January 2024 after seeing a KING 5 news story about the opening of our Puget Sound Field Office.
With a lifelong admiration for and a field office located just minutes from her home in West Seattle, she knew it was the perfect opportunity to get involved. 🐾
Christine has become a familiar face at outreach and tabling events, where she helps educate the public about Canine Companions and our mission. She has also generously supported fundraising efforts, graduations and special events, always bringing enthusiasm, kindness and a willingness to help wherever she's needed. 💙
One of Christine's favorite parts of volunteering has been becoming part of the Puget Sound volunteer community. She has enjoyed getting to know fellow volunteers and witnessing the remarkable journey of our service dogs, from puppy raising and fostering to professional training and ultimately being matched with a client. Seeing the life-changing impact these partnerships create continues to inspire her. 🥰
Christine's dedication, positivity and passion for our mission make a meaningful difference in the Puget Sound area and throughout Canine Companions. We're incredibly grateful for her continued support and the many ways she helps advance our mission.
Please join us in thanking Christine for her outstanding commitment to Canine Companions! 🥳
