Get outside and enjoy the Greenway this October!

Do you know which creeks cross the Greenway and where features such as trails and community gardens might be found in the future? Join us on October 10 from 10am-12pm to learn more about the land and the next phase in the park planning process as we explore part of the property with you!

Sonoma Land Trust and Sonoma County Ag + Open Space will be holding a special series on the Greenway every Wednesday in October from 4pm-5pm. During “Sharing Stories in Nature” participants will read a chapter of Sonoma Land Trust’s history focusing on various themes. This will be used as a basis for reflecting on our own stories, with time to gather our thoughts and then share with the group.

Meet the Community Engagement Team: Latino Service Providers

Latino Service Providers (LSP) supports Sonoma County’s Latinx community to help improve access to healthcare, mental health services, education, legal support, and other social services. During this phase of the Southeast Greenway’s master planning process, LSP is supporting outreach activities, especially for Spanish speaking residents near the Greenway and across Santa Rosa. You’ll see them tabling with us at Water Bark and other community events, at open houses, and other events to reach neighbors.

We’re excited to be working with Latino Service Providers in engaging with the Spanish communities in Sonoma County!

What if this long-vacant corridor becomes a place filled with laughter, connection, nature, and joy? With the City of Santa Rosa, California, in partnership with Sonoma Land Trust, Southeast Greenway volunteers, and other community partners, we have begun the Greenway's next chapter with the launch of the master planning and community engagement process.

The Greenway isn't being created for the community, but WITH the community. Your input will help create a future Greenway reflecting the needs and priorities of Santa Rosa residents and its diverse communities. National parks probably come to mind when thinking about public lands, but any area of land or water owned by a group of citizens and managed by a government agency is considered public land. We’re proud to celebrate National Public Lands Day as we enter the next phase of becoming Santa Rosa’s newest public park.

Show your support of our public lands by:
🌿Volunteering – Help clean trails, remove invasive species, plant trees, and more at your local parks. Sonoma County Regional Parks and the City of Santa Rosa, California have a number of volunteer days throughout the year. You can also visit our website to volunteer with the Greenway.
🌿Advocating – Stand up for our parks, especially at the national level. Support the Roadless Rule, Endangered Species Act, and other climate protections that are under attack.
🌿Recreate responsibly – While visiting parks, stay on designated paths, keep a safe distance from wildlife, and leave no trace (pack out all your trash).

The Southeast Greenway is entering an exciting new chapter—and we have a new look to support our community-led planning process!

Inspired by the corridor’s natural beauty and future potential, the new logo features rolling hills, a winding pathway, and native wildflowers symbolizing connection, movement, environmental stewardship, and the relationship between people and nature.

🌿 Planning is underway for the Santa Rosa Southeast Greenway! 🌳

The City of Santa Rosa, in partnership with Sonoma Land Trust, Southeast Greenway volunteers, and other community partners, is beginning the master planning process for the Southeast Greenway project, which will transform a two-mile corridor of vacant land into 49 acres of park amenities, trails, natural open spaces, and community gathering places. 🚶‍♀️🚴‍♂️

Community input will help create a future Greenway that reflects the needs and priorities of Santa Rosa residents and diverse communities.

This weekend we had the pleasure of tabling outside of REI as they celebrate National Public Lands Day. We enjoyed talking to the community about the Santa Rosa Southeast Greenway and the new phase we're heading into for creating an amazing community park.

Meet the Community Engagement Team: Who is Civic Edge Consulting?

As we move into the next stage of the park planning process of the Southeast Greenway, you might hear the name Civic Edge Consulting. Previously, they led outreach and engagement in Sonoma County supporting projects related to transportation, housing policy, and wildfire resilience. As a women-owned, employee-led firm, they focus on helping to engage and empower communities through authentic community engagement and responsive communications towards the public. They are helping us with outreach and creating a new logo and website to better tell our story.

Meet the Community Engagement Team: Kimzin Creative

Petaluma-based arts and equity consulting group Kimzin Creative believes joyful futures are created by, for, and with community. They will lead the creative and arts-based engagement for the Southeast Greenway master planning process, using the arts to unleash the creative capacity of Santa Rosa’s diverse communities and inform the design, programs, and operations of the new 47-acre park.

Their work creates welcoming spaces where communities historically excluded from placemaking can come together to dream, imagine, and shape what’s possible.

As Sonoma County residents, with recent contributions to Santa Rosa’s General Plan Update, they bring trusted relationships and deep knowledge of the region’s vibrant communities to the project.

We’re excited to be working with Kimzin to dream together and help bring a joyful future for the Southeast Greenway to life!
