Okapi🐾

MEET OKAPI — A TRUE SURVIVOR WHO DESERVES HER HAPPY ENDING🐾

Okapi is a sweet 4½-month-old Shepherd/Cattle Dog/Pit Bull mix who has already overcome more than any puppy should ever have to endure. ❤️

Before arriving from Bakersfield, Okapi and her sister, Panda, were tiny puppies battling pneumonia. They watched nearly their entire litter disappear — four siblings died in the shelter, two more passed away in foster care, and another was euthanized at the hospital. Against incredible odds, Okapi and Panda survived. 🥺❤️

Then Okapi faced another heartbreaking challenge. She suffered a severe fracture to the growth plate in her rear leg and needed surgery. Pins were placed to repair the growth plate and another broken bone, followed by weeks of recovery.

Thankfully, Okapi is doing AMAZING! 🥰 Her pins have been removed, her bandage is off, and she has officially been cleared to exercise and play! She is an incredibly happy, loving puppy who absolutely adores attention and seems to be smiling all the time. 🐶💕

After everything she has been through, Okapi is ready for the next chapter of her life — a loving forever home or a foster home willing to give her the love and support she deserves.

She is:
🐾 4½ months old
🐾 Shepherd/Cattle Dog/Pit Bull mix
🐾 Loving and affectionate
🐾 Super friendly and playful
🐾 Happy and full of personality
🐾 A true little survivor ❤️

Okapi has fought so hard just to be here. Now she needs someone who will show her that her difficult beginning doesn't have to define her future.

Could you be Okapi's hero? 🥹❤️

Sweet Pea: Her Amazing Journey / Ferel to ADOPTED.

Why We Never Give Up – Why Being a Foster Parent is So Important & Rewarding.

Four years ago, Sweet Pea came to Countryside Animal Rescue with a litter of puppies after being rescued from a horrible hoarding situation. We were told she was about 10 years old.
Sweet Pea was terrified and wanted nothing to do with people. She and her puppies went into a foster home, where we quickly learned that she loved other dogs but was terrified of human touch. Any attempt to pick her up or handle her would result in a bite.
Her puppies grew, found their forever homes, and Sweet Pea eventually returned to Countryside. We tried and tried to earn her trust. Over time, she learned to love the staff in her own special way. She would come up and give kisses to an outstretched hand, but she still wouldn't allow anyone to pet or pick her up.

Then Sweet Pea found a very special purpose. She became our surrogate mama to frightened puppies and scared dogs coming into the rescue. She understood their fear in a way we couldn't. She gave them comfort, confidence and companionship and helped them learn that they were safe.

As the years passed, we accepted that Sweet Pea might live the rest of her life with us. She was happy, secure, and comfortable with her routine. Countryside was her home.

About six months ago, Cora, a member of the Four Paws team, decided to foster Sweet Pea. Cora didn't force affection or expect Sweet Pea to change. She simply gave her space and allowed her to become part of the pack at her own pace. She brought Sweet Pea to daycare with her, transporting her safely in a crate, and slowly something began to happen.
Sweet Pea realized Cora was her person.

For years, we could see that Sweet Pea wanted to trust people. She wanted that connection, but something inside her just wouldn't allow her to completely give in.

And then one day, she did.

Sweet Pea started jumping into Cora's lap. She allowed Cora to pet her. She even began snuggling with her on the bed—things we honestly wondered if Sweet Pea would ever be able to experience. Cora still doesn't attempt to pick her up. She continues to respect Sweet Pea's boundaries and lets Sweet Pea decide what she's ready for and when.

This is another one of our amazing stories about a feral dog—and this is exactly why we don't give up on a dog simply because they are difficult, fearful, or take longer to trust!

Sweet Pea needed something that couldn't be rushed. She needed time, patience, consistency, and a foster parent willing to accept her exactly as she was.
This is the true meaning of foster parenting.

****** Fostering isn't always about taking home an easy dog for a few weeks. Sometimes it's about giving a frightened dog the one thing they've never had—a safe home where nobody expects anything from them. A place where they can finally learn, at their own pace, that people can be kind and that love doesn't have to be frightening. *********

Sweet Pea spent years helping scared puppies and dogs learn how to feel safe.
Then Cora gave Sweet Pea that same gift.

******* This is why we don't give up. This is why foster homes matter. And this is what makes rescue work so incredibly rewarding.

******* Some dogs just need more time. Sweet Pea needed four years. And she was worth every single day!

******** Congratulations, Sweet Pea, You’re Adopted !
******** Thank You, Cora, for giving Sweet Pea the chance she
deserves!

ADOPTED!!

***PUPDATE***
BERNIE IS ADOPTED!!!

Bernie is Looking for Her Perfect Person ❤️

Some dogs are social butterflies. Bernie isn't one of them... and that's perfectly okay.

Bernie is a beautiful 4-year-old Maltese/Poodle mix, looking for a quiet, loving home where she can simply be someone's best friend. Her foster family absolutely adores her and says she is one of the sweetest companions they've ever welcomed into their home.

Here's why they fell in love:

🐱 Wonderful with cats—she peacefully coexists with them and doesn't bother them at all.
🚶 Walks beautifully on leash with no pulling or dragging.
🚗 Loves car rides and happily watches the world go by.
🛏️ Sleeps soundly through the night and is an expert snuggler.
❤️ A true lap dog who just wants to be close to her person.
🏡 House-trained with excellent house manners.
🌞 Happy lounging on a comfy bed, the back of the sofa, or soaking up a little sunshine.
🦴 Gentle with treats, not food obsessed, doesn't beg, doesn't chew, and barely sheds.
😊 Sweet, funny, affectionate, and happiest living a calm, peaceful life.

Bernie has also taught us what she needs to be successful.

She can become anxious around unfamiliar people, especially when approached unexpectedly while on leash. Because of this, she'll do best with someone who understands that not every dog wants to greet strangers. She doesn't need to go everywhere or meet everyone—she simply wants to enjoy her walks, cuddle on the couch, and spend time with the person she loves.

We believe Bernie's ideal home is:
❤️ A quieter household with a single person, couple, or low-key family.
❤️ A home with minimal visitors and a predictable routine.
❤️ Someone willing to continue building her confidence with patience and positive reinforcement.
❤️ A family that understands her greatest joy is simply being together.

Her foster family shared these heartfelt words:

"We are so blessed to have had Bernie in our lives. We love her so much and wish our lifestyle met her needs because we would happily keep her forever. We know the perfect family is out there, and when they find Bernie, they'll have an incredibly loyal and loving companion."

Bernie doesn't need a busy life.

She just needs her person.

If you think you could be the calm, loving home Bernie has been waiting for, we'd love to introduce you.

💕 Bernie's foster family has generously offered to continue fostering her until that perfect forever home comes along, so there's no rush—only the right match.

💙 Meet Dulce — Looking for His Happily Ever After! 🐾

At just 8 months old, Dulce has already been through more than any puppy should. He came to us from a heartbreaking hoarding situation where many small dogs were living together. He was neglected, filthy, covered in painful mats, and absolutely terrified.

With patience, kindness, and gentle care from our amazing groomer, Dulce received a much-needed spa day. His heavy mats were carefully removed, revealing the handsome little pup underneath. ✨ Just look at his incredible transformation!

Dulce is a very shy boy who is still learning that people can be kind, gentle, and loving. He can be nervous around small children, so a **home without children is strongly recommended.**

🐾 Dulce would do well with another small, friendly dog to keep him company and help him gain confidence.

He needs a patient, understanding family who will give him the time, reassurance, and love he needs to feel safe and blossom at his own pace. Behind that shy exterior is a sweet young pup just waiting for someone to show him what it means to be loved. 💙

Dulce deserves a home where he will always feel **safe, cherished, and cared for.**

🏡 Could you be the person to give Dulce the loving forever home he deserves?❤️

Please share his story — his perfect family could be just one share away! 🐾
