Here’s a fillet brazed version of the laser cut bi-laminate lug look. He was a perfect candidate for this style as his frame’s geo was really outside of your standard lug parameters. 650b wheels with 42mm tires and fenders, canti brakes, “French Connection” seat stay treatment, modified Crust bikes fork crown and custom stainless rack. 700c road bike that’ll fit 38mm tires. This was commissioned by a local Santa Rosan and exemplifies a design where two people can sit down and collaborate in real time. We also figured the best tubing for his needs and in the process found a new tube to use that I didn’t realize was available, namely the ST. It’s an exclusive where it’s a bigger 31.8 diameter at the bb and tapers to 28.6 at the ST/TT junction. Why? He wanted it stiffer at the bb and a little more compliant in the seat post, but because the ST is so thin at the TT junction I needed to add a collar to add thickness and durability. Why stop at just a hunk a tube, I couldn’t help myself and performed some small kine milling to give character and lighten it up. The circles around the top of the collar will be covered by ST collar. Round oval round chain stays were also chosen to stiffen things up in the BB area. There’s stainless steel front dropouts from paragon and some modified Ira Ryan rear dropouts.

I was gently reminded that I forgot the front rack and promptly made one when I got it back from the painter. I tried to have the rack share some sunshine inspiration too.
