Sonoma County Safe Routes to School

Welcome back to school! We are excited to start walking and rolling to school – and anywhere – this year! This September, we challenge you to form a group with two or more students or families to walk or roll to school or to another destination for fun, connection, and safety in numbers! Form a group with two or more students from neighboring families to walk (or park & walk), scooter, bike, carpool, or ride the bus together. Then, tell us your travel success story so we can share it to inspire others! We will select three inspiring buddy travel groups to highlight in our newsletter, and will award $50.00 to each of the winning travel groups! &roll

We made it to so many Back to School events this past week to encourage and educate Sonoma County families about walking and rolling this school year! Have fun everyone and remember to be safe!

This morning, SRTS staff, along with residents, neighbors, families, and staff from City of Santa Rosa Transportation and Public Works, joined in to paint red curb, add striping and coning to the intersection of Comalli Street and Lazzini Avenue, behind Roseland Creek Elementary School and Roseland Accelerated Middle School (RAMS). The improvements made to this intersection are meant to improve visibility for students walking and biking to the two campuses. 

The improvements are designed to help keep intersection corners clear of parked vehicles that can obstruct visibility and help to shorten the unprotected walking distance when crossing. By improving sight lines for students, families, cyclists, and motorists, the project will support safer travel to and from Roseland Creek Elementary and RAMS. 

A big thank you to our volunteers and to school and district leadership for supporting this project!

What an amazing turnout for the street murals painting project between Loma Vista Elementary School and the Boys & Girls Club on Maria Drive in Petaluma! We can’t wait to see the finished product!!!

Join us for a community ride along the route of a proposed multiuse path in Santa Rosa's Roseland neighborhood Thursday, August 6. Meet at 5:30 at the South Davis Park basketball court. See you there!

Pedal Fest is Sunday, May 31 from 11-4 at SOMO Village in Rohnert Park! Our Bike Month celebration will include a KIDical Mass family ride led by our Sonoma County Safe Routes to School team. Join us for this 2.5 mile loop around the neighborhood (helmets required for children and adults), and then return to SOMO to check out our fair and snag some ice cream from .sonoma !
