Postcards from Bennett Valley...
Longtime winegrower, Ken Hunt bought his parcel at the base of Bennett Ridge some 20 years ago. There he planted Nolan Vineyards (4 acres of Syrah) and built the house he shares with wife, Suzanne. Ken and Suzanne sell most of their fruit but always hold a bit back for their own special cuvee - Wild Red Syrah. Ken hauls fruit for Bowland Vineyard Management and others during harvest. Keep an eye out for his distinctive yellow truck (the Rumble Bee) on Bennett Valley Road over the next few months!

Veraison has begun in the Pinot Noir blocks of some of the cooler areas in Bennett Valley. Veraison usually begins around twelve brix and marks the half way point of the grape maturation process.

Following the daily reports from the Sonoma County Weather Station Network? Powdery Mildew Pressure is Intense. This grower is fighting back by opening up the canopy and applying Stylet Oil. Fingers crossed for warmer temps later this week.

The Bennett Valley Weather Station is up and running! Funded by the Sonoma County Wine Growers, the new station is installed at Frostwatch Vineyard (5560 Bennett Valley Road).
