Our season finale featuring three composers whose works are finally receiving the attention they deserve: Samuel Coleridge-Taylor’s lovely Idyll sets a reflective and poetic tone with its tender melodies and pastoral elegance, F***y Mendelssohn’s dramatic cantata, “Hero und Leander,” weaves a tragic Greek myth into music of passion and vivid orchestration, while Florence Price’s groundbreaking Symphony No. 1 blends classical forms with African American spirituals and folk rhythms creating an iconic 20th century American masterpiece. Celebrate with us the breadth of orchestral music and its enduring power to surprise, delight, and move the human spirit!
