FIX-IT FAIR for most things that need fixing 04/20/2023

The first-ever West County FIX-IT FAIR will be held Saturday, April 29th at El Molino in Forestville. “FIX it. Don’t NIX it.” is the rallying cry for Steve Griffith, a retired elementary school teacher who lives in Forestville. Griffith, along with the Russian River Rotary, invite anyone to bring things in need of repair such as bicycles, lamps, clothing as well as wood and metal items.

via forageSF:

To further our mission of getting as many happy folks out into the woods as possible and, at the same time, sticking to our ideals of keeping foraging sustainable, we’re looking for more locations for our mushroom classes this season.

Below are some details of the kinds of places that are perfect for foraging. We love partnering with wineries, retreat centers, or private land owners. Our classes are 3-4 hours with between 15-20 students and are very focused on sustainability and having little impact on the land.

What we’re looking for:

At least 100 acres of woodland
A good mix of trees. Douglas firs, live oaks, madrones, and tan oaks are best. Areas with only redwoods are not great for foraging, but some mixed in can work.
Parking available for 10-15 cars

We, of course, are happy to compensate owners with either payment or, as we’ve done in some cases with wineries, discounts on mushroom classes for your staff/members. It's an amazing perk that people love.

If you or someone you know has land that fits the bill and wants to be part of opening eager students' eyes to the wonders of appreciating and protecting our environment by learning to forage, please reach out.

Excited for our new partnerships this year, and here’s to a great year in woods!

Thanks,

IMPORTANT:

Please go to https://my2020census.gov/ and get counted - no matter where you live!

Federal resources are allocated by population.

You have to be kidding me, Santa Rosa. We are losing to EVERY other city in Sonoma County on our Census self reporting. Here's what I need you to do: put down your margarita for two minutes (I swear it will still be there when this is done), grab your census form and go to my2020census.gov. The questionnaire takes no time at all - and you will be doing your part to make sure we get our fair share of federal resources and representation.

Share this with your friends, and let's see if we can catch Windsor by the next update.

Census 2020 04/25/2020

It just takes a few minutes to complete the Census survey. Please do it - Congressman Mike Thompson had a town hall meeting this afternoon and mentioned that our census numbers will play into the calculations for recovery funding from the federal government. It is important that we are all counted.

“As small businesses go into crisis, we need to be pushing for worker ownership.

Rather than being shut down, every workplace should have the option for workers to turn it into before it goes into bankruptcy.”
