Aaaand it is plagiarism that is killing the planet and actively making humans dumber by having them outsource literally everything. Every person engaging in these trends (what would I look like in the 80s etc) are just happily giving up their likeness and identity to folks who have -zero- interest in you having a healthy, happy, and safe life. Yall are just giving away the keys to the castle. Giving over your sovereignty for a cheap dopamine hit. These trends are the epitome of folks saying “jump” and you say “how high?”. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Before anyone comes at me about the meat industry, what it takes to make almonds, the agricultural industry or the mining industry and what goes into literally every aspect of modern life… etc etc here is a small list of what I’m doing to do my part…

I don’t eat almonds or almond milk. When I choose to eat meat it is from local sources or game meat. I’m growing food and learning how to grow more. When I buy veggies they are local or from regenerative farms. My home base is off grid, running almost entirely on solar. We will soon have a greenhouse (yay!) I use dr bronners soap for body wash, cleaning, and clothes to reduce the toxic load on myself and the planet. I choose slow fashion with organic materials that yes, cost more, but last longer and help support local craftsmen and women (they also don’t have hormone disrupting chemicals like t3mu and sh13n have been tested for) I use natural makeup that are packaged with sustainable materials. I don’t use generative AI/don’t outsource my creativity or anything beyond search engine queries (like where to find organic heirl00m see-ds on google search cause it forces it). I haven’t used non-stick pans in over a decade. Cast iron is always tried and true. Bamboo tooth brushes…I do my best not to buy plastic…. Obvs this one is hard to avoid… but it’s not entirely impossible. 🐱

That’s a small list of what I’m doing to be mindful and not contribute to the things that are actively destroying the planet. I know I’m not perfect. I know I could do better. I also know not everyone can do all of these things… but each little bit adds up. Every bit does and can make a difference. They want us to feel disempowered so we just keep consuming.. but each choice can be an act of defy-anc3 that we get to actively engage in every day. 🔥

All this to say… everyone should be caring a lot more in all the ways… in every sector of their lives.
At the moment we are on a fast track to a dumpster fire that none of us are truly ready for. Quick dopamine and lack of critical thinking skills will be the end of humanity at this rate… and everyone is kind of just fighting for what brings them temporary pleasure… instead of zooming out and looking at the bigger picture. It’s past time to care about our communities and this planet more. 🌍

I was speaking with someone yesterday about aphantasia and what it’s like to have no minds eye.

The question of psychedelics came up and if I experience anything there at all. As someone who has sat with grandmother medicine many many times and makes friends with fungi it still boggles my mind that people have full, visual experiences. It sounds like a super power to me. ✨

Thankfully, the all-encompassing love that comes through the journey is still very palpable, even with aphantasia… 🥰

Sometimes I feel like I’m missing a massive part of being human… and sometimes it feels likes it’s own weird super power.

My least favorite part about it is that I have always struggled with memories and remembering… even in school. I’m the worst with names… but I remember peoples energy. While some folks have photographic memory and can bring themselves back to a certain point in their lives… I struggle.

It’s wild and beautiful how vastly different we all experience life… 🩵

Everybody wants a rev0l u tion but fears being rev0l u tionary. Clutching to their comforts… hoping change will come… not realizing that perhaps their very spark is the one that will set a new movement ablaze. Something that can truly change the world. 🔥

Nothing that is worth it is easy, ever… and changing the world is a huge ask… but it only takes a spark. 🩵

…and for all who think “art should not be political” you’ve been brainwashed into thinking that escapism and cheap dopamine are the pinnacle of human existence. Art/music has always been political. Full stop.

Artists who stand for something should be respected and supported more than ever. Especially the ones not nearly as huge as Ed Sheeran and Macklemore. 🔥

Hate to break it to you… but there is no way we will ever get out of any of this mess by remaining neutral. Remember, the ones benefitting most from the systems in place are the ones calling for neutrality/silence/etc.

Our external world is a mirror of our internal one, and after 12 years of attendance, the dust hits me harder than ever.✨

It's being of service. It's finding the joy in the moments of chaos. It's letting go of expectation. It's choosing presence with yourself and others.

Just like any city on the planet, the desert attracts folks from all walks of life... and sure, there are more tech billionaires than ever. But there are also an infinite number of beautiful hearted humans creating experiences that touch the heart and mind in unbelievable ways. 🩵

Not everyone is rich in resources... but all of us who keep going, even when scraping by, are rich in our communities. Burning Man reminds me of the kind of human I want to be on this planet, and we need that reminder more than ever right now.

It has major issues, yes. I could go on about how they need to pay artists more, or how the org is dysfunctional af and needs restructuring…but there is nothing else on earth like it right now.

I played some of the most fiery, feral sets of my life out there. I hosted 3 radio shows involving more magic on playa and beyond. I had massive conversations with friends who are out there enacting beautiful things off playa too, sustainability work, bringing neighborhoods together. I met humans who are exactly what I need to start the events I want to curate next.

This place attracts magical humans and can be what you make of it. Maybe the loss of soul you're feeling is a reflection of your own internal space. I say that with the observation that the music industry and festivals as a whole have been pushing more escapism lately... so have our devices... so has social media.

We're in a crisis for the soul, generally speaking. And the only way out of it is going inward. It’s not always the easiest way.. but it is the most rewarding. 🐱

I have been seeing a lot of posts out there regarding support of one another and find it sad that it has to be said… but quietly watching your friends work their butts off to build something and not giving as much love as possible is just plain weird.

It takes almost zero effort to hit the like button… and only a fraction more to give a thoughtful comment. Even less to share. There are folks who have never even met me irl yet that do this… and I’m -so- grateful to everyone who does. Small actions make big waves and we need artists to not lose their vision as we get buried in AI and drowned out by algo-riddims.

Support your favorite artists. Support your friends. Support your family.. cause we are all going through quiet struggles these days… and thank you to everyone who has taken the time to share with me how my music and message has changed/helped them. It keeps me going. 🩵🐱
