The same evening (during a heatwave) that I planted the violas, I planted Spinach and Swiss Chard. Here i used frost cloth on the south/southwest side to protect the little plants from this heatwave.

Protect newly planted pansies, violas and Iceland Poppies from direct sunlight during these hot days. They do need to be planted where they will be growing all winter in direct sun though for best performance.

(....enter angels singing ....) It took Two Years but Finally the Tuberose is Blooming! The stem is so tall that I hardly have to bend over to smell its heavenly scent.

Some Flowers are Hard to Capture What they Look Like in Person. Gomphrena globosa 'Fireworks' is one of these. In person the bright dots of yellow-orange really stand out against the hot pink! Gomphrena make the most happy cut flowers and last a long time. I start these by seed in six packs in February or March because I have not seen this variety in the nurseries. With the price of plants now, I think more people are going to try starting plants from seed and propagation. Sunflowers are one of the best seeds for the first time seed starter to try and zucchini is another.
