Breaking news → CTA recommends Richard Barrera for State Superintendent of Public Instruction. The recommendation was passed by the 800 delegates of our State Council of Education.
Barrera’s commitment to working families and public education is clear in his decades of experience. In his role as President of the San Diego Unified School Board, he worked alongside educators to transform the district into one of the highest performing in the country.
His solidarity and deep commitment to public schools has achieved lower class sizes, created opportunities for more bilingual instruction, and expanded science and career pathways in San Diego and beyond. Working with Richard, educators increased pay by over 40% and have protected affordable fully paid family benefits. His leadership proves that when you partner with educators, students win.
The time is now for bold leadership. We urge voters to stand with 310,000 educators across California and vote for Richard Barrera for California State Superintendent of Public Instruction.

California Teachers Association Recommends Tom Steyer for California State Governor
CTA President David Goldberg released the following statement regarding the California gubernatorial election:
“Today our democratically elected Board of Directors voted to recommend Tom Steyer in California’s 2026 gubernatorial primary. Steyer has promised to reform Proposition 13 to ensure that corporations pay their fair share in California. He’s been a champion for holding corporations accountable and closing the corporate tax loopholes that leave hardworking Californians behind and our essential public services without vital revenue to benefit the wealthy few. He also walked the picket lines with educators on strike in San Francisco earlier this year showing a depth of commitment to educator unions we expect from all elected leaders. ”
“California is the fourth largest economy in the world. We deserve a Governor who has the courage to hold corporations accountable, tackle the affordability crisis, and ensure California students and communities have access to quality public schools.”

Hello all,
Please support the Santa Rosa students and teachers. Balancing the budget on their backs is not the solution they deserve. Let the Santa Rosa School hear your voice. 1. Fully staff our schools. 2. Invest in safe and stable schools. 3. Our educators must have competitive wages and benefits. 4. Demand that the SR school board prioritize its resources so that our students and educators get the support they deserve.
