Not too long ago, my husband said something that caught me off guard. He told me he was jealous of how much time I get to spend with our daughter — because these days, she and I work together. And he's right, I am lucky. I see her 40 hours a week in the office, and then we still find time for each other outside of work. When the enormity of that hit me, it hit hard.

Because for years, I sacrificed time with her. I chose to be a working mother — not just working, but the owner of a small business. And if you've never run one, let me tell you: the blood, sweat, and tears that go into building and maintaining something like that are incredible. I always felt like I was missing pieces of her life, like I didn't get to be there as much as I wanted to. Honestly, some of that feeling never really left.

I'm about as far from what my daughter jokingly calls a "Trad wife" as you can get. My husband and I have never done things the traditional way — but it works for us, and it works well. I've been the primary worker, while he's been the primary care giver in between rocking out all over the world. He was the one that got to drop her off and pick her up from school, do the field trips (I got in a few), hang out after school and just generally be with her a whole lot more than I got to be.

So now, watching her grow Monday through Friday, working alongside her, building something together instead of apart — I'm not taking one minute of it for granted. Turns out all those years I spent thinking I was missing out were leading somewhere. Right here. ♥

I know this season won't last forever — she'll be running this place sooner than I know, and hopefully I'll be trapsing all over the world going to those bucket list locals! But right now, at this exact point in both of our lives, we get to share almost every day with each other. It's kind of like we're making up for lost time. Not every mother gets that. Not every daughter gets that. I'm not letting myself forget how lucky we both are. 🥰
