Nobody is coming to save your dog business.

And I actually think that’s fu***ng incredible news.

Because the moment you realize nobody is coming to fix your schedule, deal with your s**tty clients, raise your prices, enforce your policies, or magically make your business easier… you realize something else.

YOU can.

For a long time, I thought the problems in my business were just part of owning a dog business. Of course I was exhausted. Of course clients texted whenever they wanted. Of course I worked constantly. Of course I said yes when I wanted to say no.

That’s just business, right?

Nope.

A lot of the s**t making me miserable was s**t I had the power to change.

That realization can sting a little because suddenly you can’t blame everyone else. 😂

But it’s also where you get your power back.

If something repeatedly isn’t working, you get to look at it and ask, “What am I going to do about it?”

Maybe you need a new policy. Maybe your prices need to change. Maybe that client needs to go. Maybe you need to stop offering a service you fu***ng hate. Maybe the business you built five years ago doesn’t fit your life anymore.

You don’t have to keep suffering just because you created it this way.

That’s leadership.

Not waiting until everything is falling apart to finally make a decision.

It’s noticing what isn’t working and having the courage to fu***ng change it.

Nobody is coming to hand you the business you want.

But babe… you’re the one holding the hammer.

You can tear down what isn’t working.

You can rebuild what needs rebuilding.

And you can create something that actually supports your life.

**Stop waiting for permission.

Build the fu***ng thing

You don’t need more clients. You need better fu***ng clients.

I know that sounds scary as hell, especially when you’re in that phase where every inquiry feels like a little financial lifeboat. Someone wants to book? F**K YES. Put them on the calendar. We’ll figure the rest out later. 😂

Except… that’s how you end up with a calendar full of people who drain you, dogs that aren’t a good fit, and a business you secretly dread showing up to.

I learned that more clients does NOT automatically mean more success.

Sometimes more clients just means more problems.

More texts. More expectations. More exceptions. More dogs that don’t fit your program. More people questioning your policies. More energy being spent managing s**t you never should have agreed to in the first place.

And here’s the part I really want you to hear: you are allowed to be selective.

You don’t have to accept every inquiry. You don’t have to take every dog. You don’t have to convince someone to understand your pricing. You don’t have to twist your business into a pretzel because someone wants something you don’t offer.

Your job isn’t to make everyone happy.

Your job is to build a business that works for YOU and provides incredible care for the dogs you choose to serve.

When you get really fu***ng clear on who you are, what you offer, and who you want to work with, something changes.

You stop chasing.

You start attracting.

The right clients hear how you operate and think, “Yep. This is exactly what I’ve been looking for.”

And those are the clients you want.

The ones who trust you. Respect your policies. Listen to you. Appreciate your expertise. And don’t make you question your life choices every time their name pops up on your phone. 😂

More clients isn’t the goal. The RIGHT clients are

Flag flags!!!!

Dog professionals spend a LOT of time talking about the red flags. The boundary pushers. The clients who swear their dog is “super friendly” while you’re actively being dragged into another dimension by 120 pounds of untrained enthusiasm.

The ones who somehow turn every conversation into a debate, every recommendation into a negotiation, and every policy into a personal challenge.

Every once in a while, you get one of the good ones.
The kind of client that makes you remember why you got into this industry in the first place.

The client who trusts you. The one who hired you because you’re the professional and then actually lets you be the professional.

Wild concept, I know.

The client who doesn’t hear feedback and immediately get defensive.

Instead, they ask questions. They listen. They take notes. They go home and actually do the work.

And holy s**t, what a difference that makes.

One of my favorite clients to this day is someone I told, “Your dog is kind of an asshole.”
I said it honestly. I explained exactly why the dog behaved the way it did, what management looked like, and what we needed to do moving forward.

You know what they did?
Everything.
Every recommendation. Every management strategy. Every piece of advice.

No arguing. No excuses. No “he doesn’t do that at home.”

And because of that, their dog is thriving.

That’s the magic of green flag clients. They understand that feedback isn’t criticism. It’s information.

They understand that structure isn’t punishment. It’s leadership. They understand that the goal isn’t to protect their ego, it’s to help their dog.

Honestly, those are the clients worth their weight in gold.

Not because they’re easy. Not because their dogs are perfect. But because they’re willing to learn, willing to grow, and willing to trust the process.

Those are the people who make this job fun.
Those are the people who make the hard days worth it.

And those are exactly the people I want more of in my business
