🔎🧪Fire Science Fun!🔬🚒

In partnership with Santa Rosa City Schools and the Santa Rosa Metro Chamber, Santa Rosa Fire Department recently assisted with classroom instruction during the award winning Mike Hauser Academy this past June. This three-week summer school program provides incoming 9th grade English Language Learner students, and students who could benefit from extra math and science support, the opportunity to visit STEM related companies/agencies where they interact with engineers and professionals to observe demonstrations and participate in hands-on activities to see how classroom lessons apply to STEM occupations and operations. This offers students a direct learning experience and practical application for STEM concepts.

Over two days, 20 students from our community got hands-on experience with Computer Aided Design, 3D printing, hazardous materials response, drone and thermal imaging operations, ladder truck physics, Emergency Medical Services, and patient monitoring, fire behavior science, hydraulics, and more. Every station was led by SRFD personnel who brought their expertise and passion into the classroom and out onto the SRFD training grounds. These students left knowing that the math and science they learn in school shows up in some of the most critical and demanding careers in public service. We can't wait to do it again next year! A special thank you to the participating SRFD staff who made this day possible for the students 🚒
