Did you know? In 1875 the Chollar-Potosi Mining Co. joined the Hale & Norcross and the Savage mining companies in sinking the great Combination Shaft and began to levy heavy assessments on the stockholders, which continued until the shaft was closed on October 16, 1886. The Combination shaft never produced any significant ore even though it was sunk to approximately 3,280 feet. IT was pretty much of a bust in terms of effective mining ventures. The Combination is the one off to the right on the hillside if you are standing on C Street and looking down the canyon. Not a lot left of it these days because it was dismantled around 1900. If you went to the bottom of it you would be below the level of Reno.
