As students head back to school, parents are busy checking off school supplies, schedules, and first-day preparations. One thing that's easy to overlook is hearing.
Good hearing plays an important role in learning, speech development, confidence, and classroom participation. If a child has difficulty hearing, it can affect far more than just what's said in class.
As the new school year begins, keep these tips in mind:
π Watch for signs of hearing difficulty, such as asking for repetition, turning up the volume, or struggling to follow directions.
π¬ Encourage open communication so your child feels comfortable telling you if something doesn't sound right.
π Remember that healthy hearing helps children stay engaged, build confidence, and reach their full potential.
π©Ί If you have concerns, a professional hearing evaluation can provide answers and peace of mind.
At Audiology Associates, we care for patients of all ages and are committed to helping families start the school year with confidence.

πͺ Cookies With a Cause
Today, weβre honored to share the story of Audrey and her late mother, Crissy, whose family has a special connection to Audiology Associates.
Crissy was a close family friend of Dr. Peter Marincovich and once worked at the Audiology Associates practice. After losing her to glioblastoma, Audrey found a meaningful way to honor her motherβs memory through something she loves: baking.
Audrey began selling homemade cookies to save for her first car while also supporting brain cancer research. She has since reached that goal, but continues baking to help cover gas expenses and contribute to a cause that remains deeply personal to her family.
Choose from chocolate chip, red velvet, sugar, or snickerdoodle cookies, plus chocolate chip brownies:
πͺ Cookies: $2 each
π« Brownies: $3 each
π¦ Dozens: $20
β¨ Mix-and-match dozen: $25

π Patient Spotlight: Karey's Story π
Like many people, Karey didn't realize how much he had been missing.
It wasn't until his wife pointed out the sounds he no longer heard, birds singing, wind chimes, and even parts of conversations with his daughter, that he decided it was time for a hearing evaluation.
Today, Karey has a new perspective.
"You don't know what you're not hearing. Now I can hear the birds, the wind chimes, and more of the conversations that matter to me."
Karey also shared that one of the most meaningful parts of his experience was learning how hearing health supports overall brain health, something he had never considered before.
Thank you, Karey, for trusting Audiology Associates with your hearing journey and for encouraging others not to wait.
If you or someone you love has noticed changes in hearing, we're here to help.

When most people think about hearing loss, they think about missing conversations.
But hearing health is about much more than communication.
Research has shown that untreated hearing loss is associated with an increased risk of cognitive decline. When the brain receives less sound information, it has to work harder to understand speech, memory, and thinking.
This connection between hearing and brain health is one of the reasons Dr. Peter Marincovich built Audiology Associates. Our mission has always been to help patients stay mentally engaged, socially connected, and living life to the fullest.
If you or someone you love has noticed changes in hearing, don't wait. Early evaluation can make a meaningful difference.

Remember to protect your hearing technology during hot weather!
We've enjoyed a relatively mild summer here in Sonoma County so far, but we all know the hottest days are still ahead. As temperatures rise, it's important to remember that excessive heat, moisture, and humidity can affect the performance of hearing aids.
Whether you're caring for your own devices or helping a loved one, a few simple habits can go a long way:
β Keep hearing aids out of direct sunlight and never leave them in a hot car.
β Wipe away moisture after time outdoors or exercising.
β Remove hearing aids before swimming or showering, unless otherwise directed by your audiologist.
β Store devices in a cool, dry place when they're not being worn.
β If hearing aids suddenly sound weak or distorted, they may simply need cleaning or professional maintenance.
π Questions about hearing aid care or due for a professional cleaning? Who are you going to call? Call Audiology Associates today at 707-827-1630.

Fireworks are one of the highlights of Independence Day, but they can also be loud enough to cause permanent hearing damage in just a matter of seconds.
Before you head out to celebrate, keep these hearing protection tips in mind:
β Wear earplugs or earmuffs, especially for children
β Watch fireworks from a safe distance whenever possible
β Never light fireworks close to your ears or face
β Give your ears a break if you're around prolonged loud noise
A single fireworks display can reach 150 decibels or more, well above the level that can damage hearing.
From all of us at Audiology Associates, we wish you and your family a safe, fun, and Happy Fourth of July! πΊπΈ
