Owners of SingleThread in Healdsburg start renovation on River Belle Inn Kyle and Katina Connaughton are underway with a complete renovation of the former River Belle Inn, a 10-guestroom property that will become a bed-and-breakfast.

We are incredibly grateful to receive an HONOR Award from the American Institute of Architects Redwood Empire Chapter for the transformation of a turn-of-the-century carriage house. The amazing talent of Lyn Matejczyk, the interior designer, Steve Berlin, the general contractor, and ZFA Structural Engineers were instrumental in this collaboration. Julie Mikos captured the beautiful photography. the project also won an Honorable Mention COTE Award the same evening from the environmental jury.

We are so excited to welcome Steven Ratley to the AXIA team!

Steven Ratley is a licensed architect in California and holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virgina Tech). Professionally, he is passionate about delivering custom, high-quality design solutions that are specifically tailored to the project at hand. Steven has worked on a wide range of scales and building types including single-family residences, multifamily apartments, luxury condominiums and office spaces. When he is not at his desk he enjoys mountain biking, golfing, disc golfing and adventuring with his wife and two twin boys. In a past life he was a collegiate Division-I wrestler and resident athlete at the United States Olympic Training Center in Colorado. Steven is a welcome addition here at AXIA and we are very excited to have him join the team!

Drew Weigl Promoted to Associate Principal

AXIA Architects is pleased to announce the promotion of Drew Weigl, AIA, LEED AP BD+C to the position of Associate Principal at AXIA Architects. Drew joined AXIA in early 2016 and has over 19 years of experience in construction and the practice of architecture. Drew has shown leadership and made significant contributions to the Firm during his 8-year tenure. He has a deep commitment to the community, the profession, and is passionate about mentoring emerging professionals to provide the greatest opportunities for growth. Drew is also the Director of Sustainability at AXIA, recognizing both the Firm’s commitment to the environment and one of Drew’s life-long passions.

In addition to his roles at AXIA, Drew is also currently on the Board of the American Institute of Architects California (AIACA) as one of its Vice Presidents. Drew was previously the Chair and is the current Vice Chair of the City of Santa Rosa Design Review Board. In 2021, Drew was honored by the AIACA with the Young Architect Award, the highest award given by the AIACA Academy of Emerging Professionals.

LEAH PETTIS PROMOTED TO PROJECT MANAGER

AXIA is excited to announce that Leah Pettis has been promoted to Project Manager. Leah joined AXIA after her career in film, theater, and set design in 2016 and has quickly become a valuable member of the team. She has a strong sense of thoughtful design, graphics, color and has collaborated on many project types during her years here at AXIA. Leah played an integral role in design and color selection within AXIA’s own rebranding process and the design and materials selection of our new office location. We are very excited to have her as part of the AXIA family and look forward to watching her continue to grow and succeed in her Architectural career.

The AXIA team recently enjoyed a Sunday at the beach with family, friends and former Principals. It was a great day spending time together, enjoying beautiful bodega bay and gorging ourselves on oysters, poke and other delicious food and drinks.

Roseland Accelerated Middle School (RAMS) and AXIA are completing the final phase of their home in Santa Rosa. To be completed before school starts this August, a Multi Use / Gym, Serving Kitchen, storage area, and outdoor Lunch Shelter are nearing completion.
