✨ Yoga Beyond the Mat | BRAHMACHARYA

Brahmacharya is often understood as moderation or the conscious use of our life energy. Rather than limiting ourselves, this Yama encourages us to become more aware of where our attention, time, and energy are flowing.

In today's fast-paced world, it's easy to feel scattered by constant distractions and endless demands. Brahmacharya invites us to pause and ask a simple question:

Is this nourishing my energy—or depleting it?

Practicing Brahmacharya can be as simple as:

🤍 Choosing rest when your body needs it.
🤍 Setting healthy boundaries around your time and attention.
🤍 Investing your energy in relationships, practices, and experiences that truly support your well-being.

When we use our energy intentionally, we cultivate greater clarity, balance, and presence—not only on the mat, but in every aspect of life.

✨ Reflection: What is one small change you could make today to protect and nourish your energy?

Have you ever noticed how your energy changes throughout the day?

In Yoga, this vital energy is known as Prāṇa—the life force that animates the body, mind, and every function of life.

Pranamaya Kosha is the energetic layer of our being, responsible for distributing this life force through the breath, the Nāḍīs, and the Five Vāyus.

When Prāṇa flows freely, we experience greater vitality, clarity, and balance. When its flow is blocked, we may experience fatigue, anxiety, tension, and a lack of energy.

In Integrative Yoga, practices such as Asana, Prāṇāyāma, Mudra, Bandha, deep relaxation, and meditation help restore the natural flow of vital energy.

Conscious breathing is much more than taking air into the lungs—it is a way of nourishing the life force that supports every dimension of our being.

✨ Swipe through the carousel to discover how to strengthen your Pranamaya Kosha.

👇 To practice Surya Nadi Kapalabhati: 🌞

1. Engage Mula bandha and Uddiyana bandha with a light engagement of Jalandara bandha which occurs naturally as you hold Vishnu mudra.

2. Close the left nostril with the right ring finger and maintain this position for the whole practice. Inhale slowly and smoothly through the right nostril.

3. Exhale quickly and forcefully through the right nostril, strongly drawing the solar plexus area back and in.

4. Allow a passive inhalation to occur through the right nostril, which is about twice as long as the exhalation, so that the breath fills the solar plexus area fully.

5. Continue for 9-27 cycles.

🫁🫀🧠 Especially Helpful for

✨ SATYA — Truth as a daily practice ✨

In Yoga, Satya is not simply about “telling the truth.”
It is about living in alignment with who you truly are.
How often do we disconnect from ourselves to avoid conflict, please others, or maintain an image that no longer feels authentic?

Small disconnections appear in everyday life:
“I’m fine.”
“Anything works.”
Saying “yes” when your whole being wants to say “no.”
Satya invites us to notice these moments with awareness.
Truth is when thoughts, words, and feelings no longer move in different directions.
It is authenticity without losing kindness.
Because in Yoga, honesty without awareness can also cause harm.

This is why Satya walks together with Ahimsa:
✨ truth with compassion
✨ honesty with presence
✨ authenticity with care

Practicing Satya beyond the mat can begin in simple ways:
— listening to what you truly feel
— respecting your own boundaries
— letting go of versions of yourself that no longer reflect who you are

🌿 What truth are you avoiding hearing from yourself today?

"Attuned to the rhythms of my inner being, I live with greater harmony and fluidity."

Yoni refers to the "female reproductive system" at the physical level and also at a symbolic level as the "womb of creation." Yoni mudra directs breath, awareness and energy to the pelvic area, creating a massaging effect that enhances circulation to the reproductive organs while cultivating sensations of inner nourishment.

This gesture slows the breath rate and lengthens the exhalation, which reduces stress, thereby helping to alleviate symptoms of PMS. The lengthened pause at the end of the exhalation cultivates a space of inner silence that allows us to turn inward and attune to our own natural rhythms and cycles. Yoni mudra instills a sense of comfort and ease, which may be helpful in reducing the irritability associated with PMS. The overall health of the reproductive and urinary systems are benefited by the increased sense of comfort and ease cultivated by this gesture.

Instructions
1. Interlace the fingers inward with the left little finger on the bottom.
2. Join the pads of the index fingers and extend them forward.
3. Join the pads of the thumbs and extend them back toward the body.
4. Rest the hands below the navel or on the lap.
5. Relax the shoulders back and down, with the elbows held slightly away from the body and the spine naturally aligned.
