A milestone worth celebrating! 🎉🍷

This week, Napa Valley College and the College Foundation celebrated the opening of the Donna Altes Hospitality Training Center, completing the Wine Education Complex. The new facility expands education and career opportunities in Napa Valley’s wine and hospitality industries.

The center provides flexible classrooms, a demonstration tasting bar, and event spaces for industry workshops, guest lectures, and educational programs. Students gain real-world experience for careers in hospitality, marketing, management, culinary arts, and tourism.

With the new Hospitality Training Center and the Wine Spectator Wine Education Center, Napa Valley College is now a premier destination for wine education and workforce development.

TLCD Architecture is honored to help create and design transformative spaces that inspire learning, strengthen community connections, and support our region's future workforce.

Special thanks to our valued partners—Midstate Construction Corporation, Brelje & Race, ZFA Structural Engineers, RHAA Landscape Architects, and Kitchell—for their collaboration and dedication throughout every phase of the project.

Congratulations to Napa Valley College, the Napa Valley College Foundation, the Viticulture & Winery Technology (VWT) program, and the entire campus community on this significant milestone!

Wine Wednesday took us on a stroll through the beautiful Luther Burbank Home & Gardens in downtown Santa Rosa. 🌿🍷

As part of Mental Health Awareness Month, our team spent time reconnecting outside the office—exploring the historic gardens, learning about Luther Burbank’s lasting impact on horticulture, and enjoying time together in a peaceful setting.

Moments like these are a reminder that creativity and well-being grow through connection—with each other, with our community, and with the places that make Sonoma County such a special place to live and work.

Last Friday, the TLCD team spent part of the day volunteering at Goatlandia Farm Animal Sanctuary and Education Center! This organization is dedicated to rescuing farm animals, inspiring compassion, and advancing a sustainable future for animals, people, and the planet. 🐐💚

Whether helping around the sanctuary or spending time with rescued animals, the experience was a meaningful reminder of the power of community and giving back.

At TLCD, we’re grateful for opportunities like this to support the incredible organizations making a difference here in Sonoma County.

The TLCD team had a great time at the first Santa Rosa Wednesday Night Market of the season! Kicking off opening day at this beloved community event has become one of our favorite annual traditions - sunshine, delicious eats, and a lively atmosphere captured the spirit of our hometown community. 🌮🎶☀️

Our team enjoyed spending time together outside the office, exploring local vendors, sharing great food and beverages, and connecting with the community. Events like these are an important part of our culture and a great reminder of the strong sense of community that makes Sonoma County so special.

We’re proud to support our local businesses, artists, musicians and organizations that bring so much energy and character to our community. Here’s to another great market season! ❤️

We’re excited to share TLCD’s latest Post Occupancy Evaluation (POE) — because great design doesn’t end at completion.

The Mendocino College Lake Center, rooted in its natural setting and shaped by the values of a close-knit rural community — recently welcomed us back to reflect on how the building is performing today. POEs provide real insight into performance: how spaces are used, how they endure, and how well they truly support the people they were designed for.

Years later, it’s rewarding to see the Lake Center still delivering on its original vision — honoring place, fostering connection, and serving its community with purpose. The building is holding up exceptionally well, with only minimal wear and tear consistent with a well-used building.

That feedback fuels better, smarter design on every project that follows. POEs are a critical tool to learn, refine, and elevate the way we design for the future.

Special thanks to Santa Rosa Junior College and the MESA Program for hosting Principal Carl Servais as part of their STEM Speaker Series!

Carl shared his journey from a small Midwest town to sunny California, giving students a behind-the-scenes look at his path to becoming a Principal at TLCD Architecture. He also tackled two essential questions: What is architecture—and what it means to be an architect? Through that lens, Carl introduced the idea of the “citizen architect”, someone who uses design to actively serve and shape their community.

We love being part of conversations that inspire future design professionals and build community through shared stories.

Raising the bar for wine education in Napa Valley 🍇

Phase 2 is now complete! The Wine Spectator Wine Education Center at Napa Valley College is evolving into a vibrant hub where students, professionals, and innovators come together for hands-on learning in winemaking, business, and hospitality.

This building was featured in The Press Democrat and the program is already breaking barriers—expanding access, empowering the next generation of wine leaders, and redefining the future of the industry.

At TLCD, we’re proud to design innovative spaces where education and industry unite—cultivating the future of wine.

Special thanks to our valued partner, Midstate Construction, for their outstanding support and collaboration.

Sound connects us—to people, places, and everyday moments.

In collaboration with Kaiser Permanente, TLCD Architecture designed a Hearing Aid Center in Redwood City that reimagines the clinical experience—seamlessly blending the warmth of retail with the precision of healthcare.

The result is a welcoming, community-oriented environment that supports hearing evaluations, fittings, and ongoing care, that make essential services more accessible and approachable.

This is what design for well-being looks like.

A new chapter for wine education is unfolding in Napa Valley. 🍇

As featured in The Press Democrat, Napa Valley College’s growing wine program creates a hub for learning, connection and increased access for women entering an evolving wine industry.

TLCD Architecture is proud to have designed the Wine Spectator Wine Education Center—a purpose-built environment that brings together viticulture, winemaking, and the wine business into a hands-on, immersive learning experience.

At TLCD, we believe design has the power to shape more than buildings – it can shape who has access to an industry. Hearing students share how this space is supporting and inspiring their journeys is a powerful reminder of why we do what we do.

A special thank you to our project partners, including Midstate Construction Corporation, for helping bring this vision to life.
