5 Benefits of Botanical Playdough 🌸

1) Strengthens pre-writing muscles: 📝 Pinching, squeezing, and shaping plant filled dough builds the hand skills needed for gripping pencils later on.

2) 🧘‍♀️Supports calm: The scent, feel, sound, and aesthetic of nature based materials help regulate nervous system systems after active outdoor play.

This is the scientific method in its purest form. Through this simple balance scale, this child is engaging in a cycle of observation, hypothesis, experimentation, and conclusion. They intuitively explore foundational physics concepts like mass, gravity, and equilibrium. Each object placed is a new variable, a new question asked and answered through experience. This is how we build the brain of critical thinkers.

This is the scientific method in its purest form. Through this simple balance scale, this child is engaging in a cycle of observation, hypothesis, experimentation, and conclusion. They intuitively explore foundational physics concepts like mass, gravity, and equilibrium. Each object placed is a new variable, a new question asked and answered through experience. This week we received 12 pounds of baby corn from Feed Sonoma. The children were so surprised when they opened the husks to reveal such tiny baby corns. The strengthened their fine motor skills as they shucked each corn. We discussed how the silk attaches to the kernels which led to a lot of questions about seeds, pollination and categories of fruits. Combining water, sand and flowers and making mixtures is a task that seems innate for young children. With every iteration of this experience, a different idea or situation is revealed within the child’s brain. These mixtures evolve over time with complexity, and in their design. Deeply integral to the experience of children as they find their way in the world.With every scoop, pour and stir, their brain is making connections and understanding a little bit more. The way the world works, and how things fit together is not something that can be taught. Children must experience everything firsthand through their own experience in the way that works best for them. #wholebrainchild #ReggioInspired
