We Save the World

𝐆𝐎𝐎𝐃 𝐍𝐄𝐖𝐒: More than 20,000 salmon have returned to California’s Klamath River following the removal of four dams in 2024, marking a major step toward restoring the river’s ecosystem.

A recent study led by conservation group CalTrout found that Chinook salmon have already reached 88% of their documented historic range above the former dams, waters that had been inaccessible to them for more than a century. Coho salmon, steelhead, and Pacific lamprey have also been spotted in these newly accessible areas.

The dam removals followed decades of work led by local Tribes, whose efforts helped make the river’s restoration possible. Although researchers are still monitoring whether the returning salmon can reproduce successfully and sustain future populations, their return offers hope for the river’s recovery.

The Klamath River’s story shows what determined communities and restoration efforts can achieve. Sometimes, giving nature room to recover is the first step toward bringing an entire ecosystem back to life.

𝐆𝐎𝐎𝐃 𝐍𝐄𝐖𝐒: An 18-Year-Old Is Rethinking What Plastic Can Do What if plastic could break down while also helping tackle the pollution already left behind?

That is the idea behind Eco Purge, a plant-based biodegradable material developed by 18-year-old Irish student Arya Satheesh. As the material breaks down, it releases enzymes designed to help degrade existing microplastics in the environment.

Eco Purge is still a prototype, but Arya’s idea has already earned her the European Winner title in The Earth Prize 2026, along with $12,500 to continue developing the project.

Her story is a reminder that young people don't just have ideas about the future they can help build it. That is the spirit behind the Eco-Hero Launchpad: giving children a place to turn the environmental problems they care about into missions, ideas, and action. 🌍💡

Sometimes, one young person asking, “How can I solve this?” is where change begins.

I'll be there both to keep inviting kids and teens (and their adults) to take advantage of the programming We Save the World offers to help them protect nature. Including, a $25 donation available to the next 100 young people who use We Save the World's Eco-Hero Launchpad to support an environmental cause they care about AND to support my Rotary buddies in the Sonoma Mountain Twilight group at our event.

Caring for Creation Is a Shared Responsibility
The Vatican has issued new guidance describing serious harm to nature as a “sin against creation and the Creator,” calling for greater action to address the environmental crisis.

The message also highlights something that crosses religious boundaries: caring for our shared planet can bring people together.

That same spirit inspires We Save the World’s work to help young people turn their concern for nature into action. Through the Eco-Hero Launchpad, children can create missions around the environmental causes they care about and become part of the change.

Protecting the planet is something every generation can take part in. 🌍💙

𝐆𝐎𝐎𝐃 𝐍𝐄𝐖𝐒: Helping Protect Cameroon’s Coast. At We Save the World, we believe meaningful change happens when we support people who are already taking action in their communities.

Through our support of Eco friends Cameroon, local volunteers recently came together for a coastal cleanup, removing waste and plastic pollution while helping protect Cameroon’s coastline and marine life.

It is one cleanup, but it represents something bigger: local people caring for their environment and taking action to protect it.

A cleaner planet starts with people who are willing to care and then take action.

Today, we celebrate the individuals, families, schools, and communities around the world who are picking up litter, protecting shared spaces, and reminding us that even small actions can create a lasting difference.

Environmental creator Sam Bentley recently joined conservation partners in Bristol to help build a floating wetland now situated in the city’s harbour beside the SS Great Britain.

The project, carried out with Planet Wild, the Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust (WWT), and Biomatrix, is creating new space for nature in the heart of the city. The planted wetlands provide habitat for pollinators and nesting birds, while their underwater roots offer shelter for fish, help regulate water temperature, and improve water quality.

It is a small but powerful example of how cities can make room for nature and part of Bristol’s wider ambition to become the UK’s first Wetland City.
