We're spotlighting Claudette Colvin, a Black American civil rights activist who attended Booker T. Washington High School in Atlanta, the city's first high school to admit Black students. Months before Rosa Parks' famous protest, Colvin, aged just 15, also refused to give up her seat on a bus. Despite being violently arrested and charged with three crimes, her actions sparked outrage among civil rights activists like Parks. Colvin's arrest spurred fundraising and increased participation in NAACP youth meetings, leading her and other young Black Americans to join the youth council. However, due to her being pregnant and from a poor neighborhood, she was deemed an 'unappealing icon' by Civil Rights leaders and dropped. Nevertheless, Colvin later became a plaintiff in Browder v Gayle, a federal case that ultimately desegregated Montgomery buses in 1956.

Hey everyone! 🌟 We just wrapped up an AMAZING Camp Compass event, and we can't wait to share all the Snow Much Fun we had! ⛄❤️

🌨️ Snowy Sensory FUN: Our campers experienced the magic of winter with hands-on snowy sensory activities! From crafting our own snow to feeling the chilly texture, it was a sensory wonderland! ❄️✨

📚 Winter Stories: Snuggled up with warm blankets, we dived into enchanting winter tales that brought joy and laughter to all. 📖🤗

☃️ Snowball Battle: Our Camp Compass snow bunnies braved the outdoors for an epic snowball fight with soft, squishy paper snowballs! Laughter echoed as the white flurry of paper flew through the air – a true winter wonderland showdown! 🏹❄️

⛸️ Ice Skating on Shaving Cream: Yes, you read that right! Our ice skaters glided on shaving cream, creating slippery slopes of pure joy! It was a unique and giggly adventure. ⛸️😄

🎣 Ice Fishing Extravaganza: But wait, there's more! Our young anglers experienced the thrill of ice fishing right in the heart of Camp Compass. With toy fishing rods and a frozen sensory table , it was a frosty fishing frenzy! 🐟❄️

What a winter blast it was! 🎉🌨️ Thank you to all the campers who joined us and made Camp Compass truly special. 🙌💙 Keep an eye out for more exciting events as we continue to create inclusive and unforgettable memories! 🌈
