Sharing an excerpt from one of my favorite books, Living Your Yoga...
"The complex five-thousand-year-old tradition of yoga is about a very simple things: happiness (ananda). Yoga helps us remove all obstructing (mental) clouds so that we may come to enjoy the sunshine within. Only when we have truly found ourselves will we be able to live in peace, harmony, and happiness in the world. This is what is sometimes called the sacred life."
Wishing you peace, harmony, and happiness.
Living Your Yoga Finding the Spiritual in Everyday Life
By Judith Lasater, PH.D., P.T.
This changed my entire yoga practice.
When I accepted I'm on my own beautiful journey and that each day is different. I met myself on my mat no matter what was happening in my life. I gave myself grace.
In its most basic form, yoga is a mind-body practice that unites the mind, body, and breath to create inner harmony and peace. At first it was all about the physical strength and flexibility. Then my personal yoga practice reached my core, my soul and I began to feel the benefits of the spiritual and mental practice not only on my mat but off my mat as well.
The calm and stress relief I refer to as being "yoga-stoned."
Mindful living by being present and in the moment.
Body awareness and acceptance that my body is the only home I will ever live in.

New to Yoga? Five Tips for Beginners
(plus a great reminder for all yogis)
1. Focus on your breath.
Breathing is the anchor of yoga. If you are holding your breath or straining, back off slightly. The breath will guide you through the flow.
2. Don't compare yourself to others.
Yoga is a personal, inward practice, not a competition. Everyone's anatomy and flexibility are completely different.
3. Take breaks in Child's Pose.
If you ever feel tired, dizzy, or overwhelmed, drop into Child's Pose (a resting, kneeling pose). You can take this pose at any point during a class.
4. Explore different styles.
Find a class that matches your goals. A slow flow class is great for learning fundamentals, Power keeps you moving, and Yin focuses on deep stretching and relaxation.
5. Have fun.
Playfulness releases endorphins, reduces the seriousness that leads to physical tension, and allows you to explore postures without fear of judgment. It ultimately helps you build a healthier mind-body connection.
