Incredibly Human

Diana suffered from preeclampsia and her daughter, Aurora, nearly died when she was born. She was immediately sent to the NICU. Diana didn’t get to see her daughter after the birth. She had dreams Aurora was kidnapped. It wasn’t until Christina showed Diana a photo of Aurora that she believed she was safe. When she was finally able to see her, they placed Aurora against her chest.

Painting is spiritual for Bradley. She’s figured out how to move through life by what the paint teaches her. In painting and in life, mistakes are inevitable. We get frustrated when they happen, but it’s how we work through the mistakes that matters most. We can use our blemishes purposefully.

Bradley is using this metaphor in the real world. She teaches an art program to inmates to help with rehabilitation.

It took eleven years before Sean could get one year sober. The process of failing over and over can be disheartening to those trying to find sobriety. But eventually Sean made it to the other side.

“I didn’t understand any of it.”

Larkin did everything she thought was best for her pregnancy. But nothing prepared her for what happened at birth. Her son, James, was taken directly to the NICU. When she first met him, he was covered in tubes and wires. Then she found out he had Down syndrome and multiple health issues that required surgery.

Many of us take for granted what it means to feel included in society. For some, this is life changing.

Santa Rosa Junior College has a Speller’s Club that provides a safe space for spellers to practice and develop their skills. Every Tuesday they answer questions presented by Lindsey Goodrich and Buckminster Barrett. But this club does more than just develop skills, it gives them a sense of community and belonging.
