Knowing our Female ancestors hinges upon knowing her maiden name, but there are few records of her, and almost none that contain her maiden name. Believe it or not, there’s no record set that even focuses specifically on women! So, you need to be strategic in your search. Join me to learn how to find your Female ancestor(s)!

Our first event is "La Llorona, the Weeping Woman"

Event Description: La Llorona, the Weeping Woman: a benign children’s scary story, or a misogynistic and racist ideology that emerged during the Spanish colonial system in Mexico?

Laura Larqué will discuss the negative effect that La Llorona, or The Weeping Woman, has had on Mexican folklore. The legend’s legacy has portrayed Mestiza and Indigenous women as vengeful figures who would rather kill their own children than lose their Spanish lover.
