Most people see sargassum and think, “That’s seaweed?”
But it’s actually one of the most important ecosystems in the Gulf and Atlantic Ocean.
Sargassum serves as a floating nursery for juvenile fish, crabs, shrimp, and even baby sea turtles. When it washes ashore, it can also help nourish our beaches and support dune health.
While large amounts can be a nuisance, it’s worth remembering that nature is usually doing something bigger than what we see at first glance.

One of the biggest mistakes I see buyers make is getting hung up on things that are actually easy to change.
They’ll walk into a home and immediately focus on the furniture, paint colors, countertops, or décor. The reality is, those are some of the easiest and least expensive things to update after you buy a home.
Instead, I encourage buyers to focus on the things they can’t easily change: the location, the lot, and the floor plan.
You can paint walls. You can replace countertops. You can update fixtures and furnishings. But moving a home to a different location or completely redesigning the floor plan is usually expensive, difficult, or impossible.
When you’re looking at homes, try to look past the cosmetics and ask yourself: Do I love where this home is located? Does the lot work for my lifestyle? Does the floor plan fit my family’s needs?
If the answer is yes, don’t let outdated paint colors or furniture distract you from what could be the right home.
Buy the things you can’t change, and change the things you can.
One thing buyers sometimes don’t realize is that when an agent says, “We have another offer,” or “There have been several showings,” it’s often not a sales tactic at all.
Think about it this way: when a property first hits the market, the obvious bargains and low-hanging fruit get picked off quickly. The homes that represent the best value tend to attract attention first.
As the market moves along, buyers begin looking at the next tier of opportunities. That’s why you may find yourself interested in a property that’s been sitting for a while. The same factors that caught your eye are often catching the attention of other buyers too.
I’ve seen it happen countless times. A property can sit quietly for weeks or months, then suddenly receive multiple showings or offers within a few days. That’s just how real estate works sometimes.
If you’re interested in a property, don’t assume you’re the only one looking at it. The reason you’re considering it may be the exact same reason someone else is.
