An old colonial tradition calls for burning a bayberry candle to the socket on New Year’s Eve to bring luck and good fortune for the next year. Made from the wax of the berries of the wax myrtle bush, true bayberry candles are difficult to make and hard to find these days, but the candlemakers at Helsher House have been keeping the tradition alive since 1974
