Is biking your chosen method of transportation around campus? Is yes, you’d want to learn about the A.S. Bike Committee (UCSB A.S. Bike Committee)!

The Bike Committee advocates for a safe biking community on campus. They gather feedback from cyclists, pedestrians, and skateboarders regarding campus transportation networks and consequently fund bike infrastructure, such as re-pavement projects and bike rack additions.

Students had advocated for a bike path leading to the Interactive Learning Pavilion to be built for several years. Last year, the Bike Committee worked with Administration to finally approve the project and secure funds—of which two-thirds are covered by Associated Students student fees. The Bike Committee also collaborated with the Campus Planning Committee to design the bike path and spread awareness about the upcoming project. Their consistent advocacy and commitment to improving student life earned them the Outstanding BCU (Boards, Commissions, and Units) Award for Student Wellbeing in March 2026.

As of this fall, construction of the ILP Bike Path has commenced, and is set to conclude in January 2027. Construction fencing is surrounding the project site and a detour route is in place to redirect traffic.

Given the large presence of construction on campus this academic year, the Bike Committee would like to remind cyclists to reduce speed and bike with caution near construction zones. Please walk your bike when entering a dismount zone, which includes both construction areas and pedestrian walkways around campus. Thank you for helping us create a safe and fun biking culture!
