This year marks the final Wasatch Reading Summit hosted by Decoding Dyslexia Utah. After many incredible years of bringing educators, families, and advocates together, we’re refocusing our efforts on our Bridge Scholarship Fund, which provides needs-based scholarships for students to access evidence-based reading intervention.
We would love to fill the room for one final Summit and celebrate this work together. There’s only ONE WEEK left—grab your ticket and join us! Links in bio

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of our friend and colleague, Phillip Chipping.
Phillip was the kind of person who made things better simply by showing up—with positivity, faith, and a genuine desire to serve. As Decoding Dyslexia Utah’s legislative chair, he played a key role in advancing our mission and advocating for meaningful change for dyslexic learners across Utah. Perhaps our most frequent text to him was “you’re the best!” Phillip took initiative and got things done.
He led with purpose, always grounded in what mattered most to him: his love for God and his devotion to his family.
Phillip’s influence will continue to be felt in the work we do and the lives he helped impact. We are incredibly grateful for him.
We hold his family in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

We are excited to announce a new initiative!
Thanks to the generosity of our donors, we are now offering need-based dyslexia tutoring scholarships to
underprivileged students across Utah. These scholarships provide access to specialized, evidence-based reading instruction for students who would not otherwise be able to afford this level of support. In some cases, families may be asked to contribute a portion of the cost based on financial need. We have surpassed our goal of reaching five students to receive life-changing tutoring this year!
Families who wish to be considered for a scholarship must complete the application linked in our bio or the QR code. Please feel free to share this post with parents, teachers, literacy coaches, tutors, or anyone who can help spread the word.
If you—or someone you know—would like to support this effort, a donation link is included. Every
contribution goes directly toward tutoring for students with dyslexia. Your support truly helps bridge the gap to
literacy and confidence for these learners.

We believe that reading changes lives — and financial hardship should never stand in the way of a child learning to read.
That’s why Decoding Dyslexia Utah is excited to introduce a new initiative—a need-based scholarship called the Bridge Scholarship Fund.
This fund provides scholarships for students from underprivileged families across Utah who require specialized dyslexia intervention. Through generous donations, we are working to ensure that children — regardless of income — have access to high-quality, structured literacy instruction. When we invest in a struggling reader, we change the trajectory of their education — and their future. If you would like to help by donating or referring a family who is in need of this service, we would love to connect with you.

Research consistently shows that grade retention does not improve long-term reading outcomes and carries significant risks. The American Academy of Pediatrics opposes grade retention, citing evidence that it is associated with negative effects on children’s mental health, including increased anxiety, decreased self-esteem, higher rates of depression, and a greater likelihood of disengagement from school. For students with dyslexia—bright, capable learners with a language-based difference—retention often sends a damaging message that they are failing, rather than acknowledging that they need different instruction.
The National Association of School Psychologists has also spoken in opposition of grade retention.
Families in our community see these harms firsthand. Retention can stigmatize children at a formative age, strain peer relationships, and undermine motivation—factors that are especially harmful for students already working harder than their peers to decode text. Retaining a child does not remediate dyslexia; explicit, systematic instruction does.
