✨Introducing Gilberto Melendez Our Swan 🦢
Gilberto returns to Let the Wind Sweep Through after performing in the 2024 premiere at the San Francisco Arts Festival at Dance Mission. His long collaboration with Melusina Gomez began in Heart of the World at SF’s Cowell Theater, where he performed as a Kogi Indian in the Colombian production. Born in Estelí, Nicaragua, Gilberto’s journey began in dance halls and fiestas before carrying him to Los Angeles, where he trained in ballet, flamenco, and tango with renowned teachers including Sonya Van Beers (Dutch National Ballet), Miriam and Sander (Tango Argentina), Roberto Amaral, and Lupe del Río. His performance credits include principal dancer roles with LA Opera alongside Plácido Domingo, The Passion of Carmen!, and The Megillah of Itzik Manger with the Yiddish Theatre Ensemble. He joins the flock as the Swan, embodying devotion, grace, and the quiet power of beauty refined through a lifetime of movement.
Enter a living myth, a trail of stars for us to follow into brighter times.
Let The Wind Sweep Through opens this Friday at Marin Shakespeare Theater in San Rafael.

It is the Dove, the part of us that is gentle and sensitized, and easily accessible overwhelmed by a world which does not take care of our sensitivity. The subtle and tender work of convincing the most sensitive and sensitized parts of
She reminds us that despite uncertainty, past wounds, and persecution, we are safe enough — and strong enough — to survive the chaos of the world. She attempts to return to the caged life she once knew, but that refuge no longer exists. She cannot go back, and she cannot yet move forward. She stands in the threshold, changed.
