What if you had the chance to support world-class athletes as they chase their Olympic dreams? For Lizzie Yu, an athletic trainer at Penn State Harrisburg and a former collegiate field hockey player, that dream became a reality.
Lizzie’s been an Olympics fan for decades. So, when she learned about the opportunity to spend a week helping the training staff at the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo., she jumped at it. In late July, she spent a week treating U.S. Olympic and Paralympic athletes while living on the center’s campus. She was impressed by the facilities, the technology and, most important, the professionalism of the staff and athletes.
“It was incredible. I had so much fun. It was a good mix of spending time in the clinic and some practice coverage,” Lizzie said. “It was really insightful to see what the day-to-day life of that sports medicine staff on that campus is like.”
Lizzie’s experience working with world-class athletes now elevates the care she provides to every patient she sees. By applying the same dedication, techniques and encouragement that help Olympians reach their peak, she empowers all her patients to overcome their own hurdles and achieve their personal best.

Recovery is when your body adapts and becomes stronger from the demands of exercise. While many people focus on workouts, recovery is equally important for performance, injury prevention and long-term health. Adequate sleep, hydration, nutrition, mobility work and appropriate rest help muscles repair, restore energy and prepare the body for future activity. Without proper recovery, fatigue can accumulate and increase the risk of pain, injury and decreased performance.
If pain, soreness or physical limitations are preventing you from staying active, a physical therapist can help identify what's slowing your recovery and develop a plan to get you back to doing what you enjoy. Heather Cardena had a mammogram two weeks after her 36th birthday. The mother of two active young boys was shocked when the results came back: breast cancer. And it had spread to one lymph node.
“I knew I needed to be the mom those boys deserve,” Heather said. “This isn’t a journey that they chose; this is something that I just have to deal with.”
The good news is, Heather didn’t have to deal with it alone. With the help of physical therapy and our ReVital Cancer Rehabilitation program, she was able to regain energy and get back to lifting her children again. Even with surgery and an aggressive chemotherapy regimen, ReVital helped her get through treatment while minimizing side effects.
Heather gets choked up thinking about how far she has come, especially when she talks about the moment she was finally able to pick up her youngest son again.
“To get to a place where I was able to hold him again, that first time was definitely very emotional,” she shared. “It was definitely one of the happier moments of this journey.

Living with chronic pain is scary and common — whether it’s low back, shoulder, knee, head (migraines), neck or hip pain.
But here’s the thing about chronic pain from our latest blog that may be truly shocking: The mental and emotional component can actually limit your physical recovery.
And the really surprising part is that physical therapy doesn’t just help with the physical part. Structured and supervised movement from physical therapy can help your brain realize that you can move without extreme pain, giving you the power to keep going, which is crucial for proper and lasting improvement. It’s a positive feedback loop for your body.
There’s so much more to treating chronic pain, so read the blog to see how long treatment usually takes and whether you have any “red flags” that could affect your treatment plan. https://bit.ly/4zc2oHY

Breast cancer can change everything — how you move, how you feel and how you navigate everyday life.
This Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we honor every person facing breast cancer and every survivor continuing their journey. This month is about more than pink ribbons. It’s about supporting patients at every stage of treatment and recovery. Recovery looks different for everyone, but no one should have to face the challenges alone.
Our ReVital Cancer Rehabilitation program helps patients manage treatment-related side effects, regain strength and function and return to the activities that matter most, whether it’s returning to the dance floor, getting back to work or being more present with your loved ones.
We're proud to stand beside patients every step of the way.

At just a few months old, Willow Ann Weber's parents noticed delays in her development. They wasted no time getting her into physical therapy for torticollis, a condition that causes muscles in the neck to tighten, forcing the head to twist or tilt in one direction.
As time went on, Willow became a happy, loving little girl who enjoys dancing, but her inability to balance fully and her lack of strength made that difficult.
Initially, Willow had been receiving services through Iowa Area Education Agencies, but as she got older and results shifted, the support changed. Her parents, however, still wanted to ensure she was receiving occupational and physical therapy treatments. That's how Willow ended up working with our Marshalltown team.
Today, Willow is doing great and is a recent physical therapy graduate!
