The Marin School
The Marin School - Small School, Big Impact! College Prep High School Since 1980. The Marin School is small by design, not by default.

In one of our Biology classes, students created a restaurant replicating a working model of the cell.
You first visited the chloroplast, where you had to turn on a light to get a sugar cookie. You then turned your sugar cookie into the mitochondria for ATP and C02. If you navigate the cytoskeleton without stepping outside the lines or pulling down the fibers, you could use your ATP at the nucleus to order a protein. Your order was written on a post-it note (mRNA) and passed to the ribosome. The ribosome made your protein (ice cream in a cup) and passed it to the Endoplasmic reticulum, where root beer was added. Last, the Golgi apparatus was summoned by a bell and carried out of the cell for you. Meanwhile, the lysosome was picking up trash and recycling.

What if in Calculus, you weren't just given a series of problem sets, but you were in charge of using the data beamed back from the Martian surface to direct a rover to perform a search for life?
Our student's mission began with the rover's descent to the red planet. It was up to them to provide calculations to their fellow NASA scientists to ensure the rover did not disintegrate on impact.
After successfully landing on the surface, the rover began its exploration until sensors found a possible source of life. Students had to solve each set of equations accurately to move through each phase of space exploration and successfully find life on Mars!
