Congratulations to Shawn Gordon on his promotion from Engineer to Captain!

Since joining the department in 2012, Shawn has been an invaluable member of our organization. For more than a decade, he has served as one of our most trusted and respected Engineers—bringing a wealth of knowledge, experience, and professionalism to every shift.

Last week, Engine 654 deployed as part of Strike Team 2140C to the Little Fire in Alameda County, joining firefighters from across California to help protect lives, property, and natural resources.

Through California’s mutual aid system, local fire departments work together to provide resources wherever they’re needed most during major incidents. We’re proud of the members of E654 for representing San Rafael and supporting communities across our state.

Here are a few photos from their assignment. Great work, E654!

Yesterday afternoon, San Rafael Firefighters joined multiple agencies in responding to a hazardous materials incident in Novato.
Several San Rafael Firefighters assigned to the Marin County Hazmat Team, worked alongside partner agencies after a vehicle fire was extinguished. Initial crews discovered compromised chemical containers in the truck bed. Wearing full chemical protective suits and breathing apparatus, the team made entry, identified the substances, safely secured them for a cleanup company, and contained/neutralized all runoff.
Thanks to the rapid, coordinated response, a potentially serious situation was handled quickly and professionally.

The fire service has always been more than a just a profession. It’s a family. And like most families, some of our best memories are made gathered around the dinner table.
Tonight, we celebrated Captain Garrett Northern’s final firehouse dinner before he begins his next chapter as Battalion Chief. It was a chance to share a special meal, reflect and thank him for everything he’s done from the front seat of the engine.
We’ll miss having him in the company, but we couldn’t be more excited to see him lead in his new role. Congratulations, Chief! Here’s to new beginnings and the next chapter.

The San Rafael Fire Department is proud to announce the department wide deployment of brand-new SCOTT SCBA packs, cylinders, facepieces, and RIT packs in the very near future .

This significant upgrade was made possible in large part through a regional Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG), helping ensure our firefighters have access to the latest life-saving respiratory protection equipment while serving our community.

A special thank you goes out to leading the effort in facilitating the grant process and coordinating the extensive logistics required to distribute this equipment throughout Marin County. Their leadership and partnership were instrumental in making this project a reality.

Regional collaboration like this strengthens the fire service and helps ensure firefighters across Marin County are equipped with the tools they need to operate safely and effectively.

🚒🌊🚁 Fire Boat San Rafael recently trained with U.S. Coast Guard helicopter on rescue basket operations in the bay.

Training alongside partner agencies helps prepare crews for complex water rescue incidents where coordination and communication are critical.

We appreciate the opportunity to train together and continue strengthening our capabilities on the water.
