San Rafael Firefighters

San Rafael Fire Department responded to a vegetation fire on Lincoln Hill that started during contracted vegetation-reduction work on City-owned land. Preliminary information indicates the fire was accidentally sparked by equipment.

Contract crews immediately called 9-1-1 and began suppression efforts before firefighters arrived. SRFD crews quickly contained the fire to less than half an acre within 30 minutes.

Previous fuel-reduction work and existing fire roads helped limit fire spread and provided firefighters with improved access and defensible space.

No structures were threatened, no evacuations were necessary, and no injuries were reported.

As vegetation remains dry, please use caution when operating equipment such as w**d eaters, lawn mowers, and chainsaws that can generate sparks or heat.

25 YEARS LATER. WE REMEMBER.

September 11, 2001 changed our country, our communities, and our fire service forever.  Twenty-five years later, we pause to remember the 343 firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice, the thousands of lives lost that day, and the countless families, friends, first responders, and communities forever changed by the events of 9/11.

At the San Rafael Fire Department, we believe remembrance is more than looking back. It is about honoring those who came before us by continuing to stand together, serve our community, and live up to the values that define the fire service: courage, compassion, sacrifice, and unity.
We will gather as a department for our own internal remembrance at station 54 beginning at approximately 6:45 AM taking time to reflect with the people we serve alongside every day. The public is encouraged to attend as well.

We will also come together with our community at Lauren’s Place on 4th Street from 10:00 AM–2:00 PM for a community remembrance honoring the lives and legacy of those we lost.

Twenty-five years later, we are still proud to answer the call.  Proud to wear the badge.  Proud to serve our community.
Proud to be firefighters.

As part of this anniversary, the San Rafael Fire Department has created a 25th Anniversary 9/11 Tribute T-Shirt as a lasting reminder of this important moment in our history. Shirts will be available for $25 at the Public Safety Center (PSC), Fire Department window, with proceeds benefiting our local firefighters.  We remember. We honor. We stand united. We serve.

September 11, 2001 — Never Forgotten.

🔥 Training Never Stops

A big thank you to Advanced Fire Control for coming out and spending time training with our members.

Quality hands-on training keeps our firefighters sharp, builds confidence, and helps us continue providing the highest level of service to our community.

We appreciate the instructors at Advanced Fire Control for sharing their knowledge, experience, and time with our crews. Thank you for investing in our members and helping us continue to improve our craft. Thank you to Ross Valley Fire for joining us!

Always learning. Always training. Always ready.

San Rafael Firefighters have deployed a single resource to assist with the Timber Fire, which is burning along Highway 1 near Big Sur and into the Los Padres National Forest. The fire is burning in very steep, unforgiving terrain.
Our Fire Line Paramedic is hiking into remote areas alongside hand crews, bulldozers, and other fire personnel, carrying a large fire line pack with additional Advanced Life Support equipment. In addition to supporting fire operations, they stand ready to provide medical treatment if anyone is injured in these remote locations.
Through mutual aid, we are able to assist neighboring agencies throughout California. The experience and knowledge our members gain on these large wildland fires is brought back to San Rafael, where it helps us keep our city and community safe.

🚒🌊🚁 Fire Boat San Rafael recently trained with U.S. Coast Guard helicopter on rescue basket operations in the bay.

Training alongside partner agencies helps prepare crews for complex water rescue incidents where coordination and communication are critical.

We appreciate the opportunity to train together and continue strengthening our capabilities on the water.
