This morning, on the eve of National Public Lands Day, we gathered at the Tuckertown Reservoir to celebrate an important milestone in the effort to Save Tuckertown.

We were proud and honored to be joined by conservation-minded donors, partners, board members, and community members for the ribbon-cutting of the first 200 acres permanently conserved through the Save Tuckertown campaign.

Because of the tremendous support behind this effort, these 200 acres will remain publicly accessible forever.

But the sentiment shared at the ribbon-cutting was clear: this is not the last.

Permanently conserving these publicly accessible lands wouldn't be possible without the people who have supported this effort, and there is still more work to do.

The fight to Save Tuckertown continues.

Why can two areas burned at the exact same time have such different results?

It starts with what’s happening above the forest floor. A closed loblolly pine canopy can limit the sunlight reaching the groundcover, affecting what grows below.

Just a few hundred yards away, the results can look completely different.

Watch to see how changes in the overstory and prescribed fire can release native grasses and flowering forbs that were already waiting in the seed bank.

We’re proud to announce that Three Rivers Land Trust has been awarded Certified Entity status through the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS).

TRLT is one of only 66 entities across the nation to receive this designation, recognizing our excellence in closing NRCS-funded farmland conservation projects.

This designation will allow TRLT to expedite the closing process for these projects, helping us permanently conserve more farmland, faster.

We’re proud to bring this added capacity to our farmland conservation work and look forward to putting it to work across our region!
