We recently posted that, starting June 1, 2026, all households will need to complete an interview when they apply for or renew SNAP benefits. During COVID-19, households where everyone had a disability or was over the age of 60 and did not have income from work did not have to do an interview when they renewed their SNAP benefits. This change returns us to standard federal SNAP rules.
We’ve been seeing some concerns about the interviews in our comments, and we want to help clear things up.
The interviews are really just conversations with an ODHS worker to make sure you get all the benefits you qualify for. They also help us confirm your info and prevent errors.
You do not have to have this conversation in person – though that’s definitely an option at your local ODHS office if you want! You can also talk to us over the phone. Find your closest local office by visiting https://odhsoffices.oregon.gov or give us a call at 800-699-9075.
If you need an interpreter, we can help with that.
Most SNAP interviews take about 45 minutes, but yours may be shorter or longer depending on your situation.
Learn more about what to expect and what kinds of things to have ready: https://www.oregon.gov/odhs/food/Pages/snap-interviews.aspx
Please note: If you have not received a renewal notice, you do not need to call or visit an office for an interview yet. We will contact you when it is time to renew!
