Twenty-five years later, we still carry September 11, 2001 heavy in our hearts.

Please take a moment today to remember the innocent lives lost and honor the brave individuals who ran toward danger to save them.

Don't let the rain fool you, the burn ban is still in effect. Please do not assume that rain means burning restrictions have been lifted. The burn ban will remain in place until conditions improve and the restrictions are officially lifted. Normal burning season should begin on October 1, provided the conditions will allow the season to open.

Also remember, with the roads being wet after being dry so long, oils will come to the surface causing them to be more slick. Take the few extra minutes to get to your destination safely.

Due to increasing fire danger across the region, a burn ban will go into effect at 12:01 a.m. on June 16, 2026, for all of Polk and Yamhill Counties. This coordinated action is being taken in partnership with neighboring counties and the Oregon Department of Forestry to help reduce wildfire risk during the summer season.

The following activities are prohibited:

❌ Open burning
❌ Burn barrels
❌ Burning yard debris, slash piles, or other outdoor materials

The following activities are currently permitted:

✅ Barbecues and outdoor cooking appliances used according to manufacturer guidelines
✅ Recreational and warming fires where otherwise allowed and attended at all times
✅ Consumer fireworks where legally permitted

Although fireworks remain legal at this time, everyone is urged to use caution. Dry fuels, warm temperatures, and seasonal conditions can cause even a small spark to spread rapidly and ignite a wildfire.

Fire agencies throughout Polk County will continue to closely monitor weather conditions and fire activity. Additional restrictions may be enacted during periods of elevated fire danger, including Red Flag Warning events.

On Sunday, Spring Valley Fire District had the opportunity to participate in a regional training exercise hosted by Yamhill Fire District. The exercise focused on water supply operations and the coordination of mutual aid resources during large-scale incidents.

Multiple fire agencies came together to train, strengthen partnerships, and enhance our ability to work seamlessly with neighboring agencies. Opportunities like this help ensure we are prepared to provide the highest level of service to our communities when it matters most.

A huge thank you to Yamhill Fire District for hosting this valuable training and to all participating agencies for their commitment to collaboration, professionalism, and continuous improvement.
