It was a wonderful visit with Kumamoto Mayor and Rotarian Kazufumi Onishi at Chieftains and Bridgepoint Plaza!

Thursday saw 2025-2026 Rome Rotary President Mr. Doug Walker give his final address to the club. It was clear from his words that he will always be a firm Rotary supporter, and that he loves the ideals of Rotary - always embodying Service Above Self. We also thanked our 2025-2026 officers, and officially installed Jesse Demunbreun-Chapman as President for 2026-2027. Mr. Demunbreun-Chapman's first day as leading our club meeting will be on Thursday, July 9.

Chosen as the 2025-2026 Rotarian of the Year, Kate Daggett! Kate went above and beyond so many times in the past year, including as the host family for our GRSP student Elvira, and participating in many of our regular service projects. And, she has agreed to become the Rome Rotary Public Image Chair for 2026-2027. Congratulations to Kate.

Past President Randy Quick also accepted his Paul Harris x 2 designation.

Please remember that Rotary will not meet this Thursday so that everyone can enjoy the week of July 4.

Rome Rotary Newsletter for July 2, 2026. No meeting this week. Have a safe and fun holiday!

Last week one of our scholarship recipients, Will Ayres, and his mom Chandra, visited so Will could provide an update on his freshman year of college at Jacksonville State University. He has been involved in music, tried all kinds of new educational experiences and excelled in academics. We are proud of how Will is using his Rome Rotary scholarship! We were thrilled to be visited by Rotary District 6910 Public Image Chair Amanda Groover who presented Doug Walker with the first Ann Ragle-Haynes Award for outstanding public image to be given to a club president. Leanne Hand Cook, the public image chair for Rome Rotary, and Tom Mayer, editor of the Rome News Tribune, were also honored due to their contributions to Doug's award. New members Dr. Raul Gonzalez, recently retired from Harbin Clinic after 40 years of service, and Jameie Stone, a leader in the Rome-Floyd Fire Department for 23 years and current Division Chief, were inducted. We also heard from the Children's Museum of Rome's leadership about their wonderful new exhibits as they get closer to their opening date - adding a rich learning and fun environment to the Mt.
