Happy International Coffee Day! ☕

Around here, computers may run on electricity…

…but we run on coffee. 😆

Whether we’re diagnosing a stubborn laptop, cleaning up a slow PC, or trying to figure out why something that worked perfectly yesterday has suddenly decided it wants nothing to do with us, there’s a pretty good chance there’s a cup of coffee nearby.

Here’s to caffeine, troubleshooting, and one more restart just to see what happens.

We have the final number from our Clock Inc Charity drive for August. We hit a final donation of $220.00, But we have decided to round that number up to $300 dollars and plan to drop the check off to them this week or early next week

It's the last day of the month! So, here's your reminder to transfer your photos from your phone, backup your important files such as documents, photos, and videos to an external drive, and backup to cloud storage if needed.

SCAM QUIZ! 🧐

You’re browsing the internet when a notification appears:
⚠️ “NORTON SECURITY WARNING”
“7 viruses detected!”
“Your personal information is at risk!”
“CLICK NOW TO CLEAN YOUR PC”

What should you do?
A. Click it immediately.
B. Call the phone number it provides.
C. Enter your credit card so Norton can fix it.
D. Ignore the notification and have someone you trust verify whether there’s actually a problem.

Answer: D.

These fake antivirus warnings are extremely common, and we’re seeing them regularly. Sometimes there isn’t even a virus causing the warnings—the browser has simply been given permission to send notifications from a bad website. Google and Microsoft both provide controls for blocking unwanted website notifications. When in doubt: don’t click.

“Can you just look at this?” Sometimes you don’t need a full computer repair. You need someone who can answer:
▪️“Is this email real?”
▪️“Should I install this update?”
▪️“Why won’t my printer software work?”
▪️“What is this thing that keeps popping up?”
▪️“Do I actually have a virus?”
▪️“Why did this program suddenly stop working?”

That’s one of the reasons we offer our Remote Service Package. You get ongoing access to help with:
• Email
• Drivers
• Updates
• Software
• Virus removal

Plus 12 monthly tune-ups to help keep your computer running smoothly. And because some problems really DO require hands-on help, members also receive 50% off onsite/in-home repairs and data recovery. You shouldn’t need to become an IT technician just because you own a computer.

Why do we include monthly tune-ups in our remote service package? Your computer usually doesn’t wake up one morning and decide to be terrible. It gets there gradually.

A little more junk.
A program running in the background.
Updates piling up.
A driver acting strangely.
Storage getting crowded.
Software that needs attention.

Until one day you’re staring at the screen thinking: “Why is this thing SO SLOW?”

Our Remote Service Package includes 12 monthly tune-ups so your computer gets regular attention instead of waiting for everything to go wrong at once. It also includes unlimited virus removals, email assistance, driver support, update support, and software support. And if something CAN’T be handled remotely? Members receive 50% off onsite or in-home repairs and data recovery.

Computer maintenance is a lot less painful when you don’t have to start from scratch every time you need help.

A logo proves absolutely nothing.

Scammers can use:
✔️ Norton logos
✔️ McAfee logos
✔️ Microsoft logos
✔️ Windows graphics
✔️ Official-looking buttons
✔️ Very convincing error messages

None of those things mean the warning is actually from that company. Fake antivirus alerts are designed to LOOK legitimate. A better question is: “Where did this warning actually come from?”

If clicking it takes you to a website, asks you to call a phone number, demands payment, or tells you to install unfamiliar software—stop. Not sure? Take a picture of the warning with your phone or give Bit Tech a call BEFORE interacting with it. That five-minute phone call can save you from a much bigger headache.

Remote support package: the “I have a computer person” plan. There’s something wonderfully convenient about being able to say: “I’ll just call my computer person.”

That’s exactly what our Remote Service Package is designed for. Your package includes:

✅ 12 monthly computer tune-ups for the year
✅ Unlimited virus removals
✅ Email assistance
✅ Driver support
✅ Windows/software update support
✅ Software support

PLUS:

✅ 50% OFF onsite or in-home repairs
✅ 50% OFF data recovery

Instead of waiting until your computer is barely functioning, we can help you keep it maintained throughout the year—and when something weird pops up, you already know who to call.

Contact Bit Tech for details about our Remote Service Package.

The most useful scam-fighting skill: STOP! Scammers love one word: URGENT.

“Act now!”
“Your account will be closed!”
“Your computer is infected!”
“You have 5 minutes remaining!”
“Your subscription just charged $499!”

That urgency is intentional. It keeps you from stopping long enough to ask, “Wait… does this actually make sense?” If something unexpected pops up on your computer demanding immediate action: STOP.
Don’t click.
Don’t call the number in the message.
Don’t give anyone remote access to your computer.

Instead, contact the company using contact information YOU already trust—or call your local computer shop and ask us to take a look. Scammers are very good at making fake problems look real. You do not have to solve the problem on their timetable. The FTC specifically warns that tech-support scammers use frightening messages and familiar company names to pressure people into acting quickly.
