Today, our Riverside CHP officers responded to a call of a driver of a Tesla towing a U-Haul trailer that suffered a diabetic emergency, lost control, and crashed into a concrete barrier. The Tesla’s front end was heavily damaged and airbags deployed.

A sudden medical event behind the wheel can happen in seconds. If you have diabetes or another condition that can cause dizziness, confusion, or loss of consciousness:

- Check your blood sugar before you drive
- Do not drive if you feel shaky, sweaty, confused, or unusually tired
- Keep fast-acting glucose within reach
- Pull over safely at the first warning sign and call 911
- Tell a passenger how to help if symptoms start

CHP PARTNERS WITH STATE AGENCIES, HOSTS 2ND ANNUAL CAREER & RESOURCE FAIR AT EXPOSITION PARK

The California Highway Patrol's (CHP) Advisory Committee for Persons with Disabilities invites members of the media and public to attend its 2nd Annual Career and Resource Fair at Exposition Park on Thursday, October 1.

In celebration of National Disability Employment Awareness Month, the fair underscores California's commitment to inclusive career opportunities for individuals with disabilities.

This year's theme, “Celebrating Value and Talent,” will bring together representatives from several state agencies to share information about the state exam process, job applications and available resources.

�CHP staff will be on-site to assist potential applicants with their questions about the Limited Examination and Appointment Program, an optional route to state civil service for individuals with disabilities.

It is with profound sadness that the California Highway Patrol announces the line-of-duty death of Officer Brian Liles of the Visalia Area.

On September 28, 2026, at approximately 5:11 p.m., CHP Motorcycle Officer Liles was involved in an on-duty traffic crash on State Route 99, just north of State Route 190 in Tipton. He sustained critical injuries and, despite lifesaving efforts, succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

Officer Liles, 44, served the people of California for more than 16 years. After graduating from the CHP Academy in 2010, he was assigned to the San Jose Area and later served in the Hayward and Fresno Areas before transferring to the Visalia Area in 2019.

Officer Liles is survived by his wife, two children, his parents, and two sisters.

The CHP extends its deepest condolences to Officer Liles' family, friends, loved ones and all who served alongside him. His dedication to public service and commitment to protecting the people of California will not be forgotten.

When our M.A.I.T. (Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation Team) is called out to the scene, they use specialized tools and technology, including drones, to capture a bird's-eye view of the crash scene and document evidence such as tire friction marks, vehicle resting positions, debris, roadway conditions, and other important measurements.

Through training, technology, and attention to detail, the California Highway Patrol works to ensure every crash investigation is thorough, accurate, and focused on keeping California's roadways safer. 🚧
