Worship Notes Part 4: The Gospel Arc

This post is part of a series walking through the elements of our worship service. See part 1 here. See part 3 here. Last week we looked at singing as an element of our worship services. This week, I want to draw your attention to one more aspect of the way we have chosen to structure the singing in our services. My hope is that by seeing this you will be helped to engage with the singing more richly.

Worship Notes Part 3: Singing

This week we continue our look at the various elements of our worship service. If you missed the last couple of installments, you can access them here: Part 1, Part 2

After our service begins with the call to worship, the next thing we do most often is sing. It’s slightly odd if you think about it. Christians probably sing together in groups more than almost anyone else in the world; from the very beginning of the church, Christians have been a singing people, and even before that in the Old Testament singing regularly characterized the worship

Worship Notes Part 2: Call to Worship

This post is part 2 of a series examining our worship service. See the previous post here: part 1.

Last week I introduced this series of blog posts aimed at exploring why we do everything we do in our worship service on Sunday mornings. Today we begin our step-by-step journey through Sunday mornings with the first element; the call to worship.

You might be thinking that the very first thing we do is the welcome and announcements—and while we do those things at 10 o’clock, we intentionally do them before the call to worship. The call to worship is what marks the actual start of our time worshipping the Lord together.

Worship Notes Part 1: Why Do We Do That?

Have you ever been in church on Sunday and wondered, “why are we doing this”? I’m not talking about why we gather to worship at all—though that is an important question as well, and if you want to read some basic thoughts on that, you can see the three blog posts I wrote last year on the topic: part 1, part 2, part 3

(No Blog This Week)

Construction Update

Pasilla Rd from Hwy 528 to Monterrey was closed for a good part of the week and re-opened on Thursday July 9. Construction on this section of Pasilla is scheduled to "officially" begin on July 13th and will be closed to thru traffic until completion. In the meantime, you will have to enter the neighborhood from HWY 528 & Honduras, and take Monterrey to the church.

Once the road work is completed you will no longer be able to turn left from Pasilla onto Hwy 528 or go straight across to Riverside Dr. It will be a right turn only intersection off Pasilla Rd. You will still be able to turn left onto Pasilla from Hwy 528.

Why We’re Switching to the CSB

You may have guessed it from the title of this post—starting this Sunday the Christian Standard Bible (CSB) will be the Bible translation in the seats at AnchorPoint and will be the “home-base” translation for our preaching and teaching as a church. This post is here to help explain why we made that decision, and what it does and doesn’t mean for our church.

5 Tips for Prayer

A couple of Sundays ago we looked at James 5:12-18, which emphasized the power and importance of prayer, both as individuals and together as a church family. In prayer, we rely on the Lord to work as we go to him; and because our God is so gracious he often does work powerfully in and through our prayers. This is true both in that God may miraculously answer our requests, and that he often does deep work in shaping our hearts as we pray.

Reflections from Camp
Pastor, Andy Herman - Jun 18th, 2026
This week Sam and I have been at summer camp with 19 of our AnchorPoint middle and high school students, as well as 40-something students from our sister church, Faith. This week has been a blast. There has been a ton of fun packed into these last few days. This week has also been deeply meaningful. Camp is a wonderful opportunity to focus on the Lord with students in a unique way, and we have seen that happening this week.
I have been so encouraged to see students digging into Scripture, having deep conversations with each other and with leaders, spending time getting to know students they otherwise…

How to Confess

"Confess your sins…”

James 5:16 tells us to “confess your sins to one another” (CSB). We are commanded to openly admit our sin to our fellow believers. It is probably safe to say that this command is one of the less popular among Christians today, and perhaps in all of history. We don’t like confessing sin, after all, it makes us look bad! And often it comes with a real cost—we have to humble ourselves and be willing to risk being thought less of by others, and ourselves.
