Today is UN (https://wildlifeday.org), and in honor of this day I have chosen to post this single image of a North American Black Bear.

This black bear has a tag on its ear, 65, indicating it has been captured and release by NewMexico GameandFish. We want to keep bears, and all wildlife, "wild." Please don't feed any wild animal. And remember a fed bear is a dead bear.

Note this Black Bear's color, almost blonde. Black Bears come in more colors than any other North American mammal. They can be black, brown, cinnamon, blonde, blue-gray, or white. East of the Great Plains, nearly all are black. These were the first bears early settlers saw, hence the name.

This image was taken outside of Red River, NM, at about 9,400 feet in elevation in June of 2021.

Bobcats are crepuscular, which means they're most active around the twilight hours. I was very fortunate to capture these images of a Bobcat approximately 25 feet away about 25 minutes after sunset on Feb. 26, 2022.

I didn't have my zoom lens on my camera and if I stepped back any further I'd of lost sight of the bobcat since the cat was lower than I. My prime lens though is an f/4.0 so it helped in getting enough light for these images. The resultant images do make some nice intimate portraits.

The images' were captured on the south side of the Bosque Road just east of the Eagle Scout Deck at Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge.

North America’s littlest falcon is one of the most colorful raptors. They also have the ability to hover, although I was not fortunate enough to catch an image of this behavior.
Note the leftovers of a meal on the beak on the second image.

Photographing small birds is one of my favorite photography activities, but due to their small size, quick movements, and tendency to be in dense tress or bushes it can be a challenge. This little Bewick's Wren gave me an opportunity to photography it.

Images taken Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge on Jan. 3, 2022. Three of the images were taken after sunset as the bird waited to hunt until after the Sun had set.

The Coyote is a classic symbol of the southwest and can be seen anywhere in NM. At Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge they are often seen hunting in field and along ditch banks.

These images' were taken on the afternoon of Jan 3, 2022, on one of the north fields that have been open on the north extended driving loop available this winter season.

The morning was cold with the temperature at 14 degrees F.

This pair were together just south of the main road running East-West from the entrance. They then moved into the bosque was just off NM 1, allowing for some nice backlit images.
