"Full coverage."

The phrase that shows up in almost every insurance conversation we have with a new customer and almost always means something different than what they think it means. There is no standardized product called full coverage. It is not a legal term. It is shorthand for "collision and comprehensive in addition to liability" and it leaves out gap coverage, rental reimbursement, medical payments, and legal defense, among other things.

Those may matter a great deal depending on your household's situation. Some of them cost very little to add. The review starts with reading the policy. We help with that.

Adding a teen driver to the household is one of the most significant auto insurance events in a family's life and one of the most commonly handled without a proper policy review. Not out of negligence. Usually out of assumption. Four things change when a teenager starts driving: your premium, your liability exposure, the coverage picture on the vehicle they're driving, and your disclosure record with your carrier.

None of these are reasons to be anxious. All of them are reasons to spend ten minutes reviewing the policy before the summer driving season is well underway.

Save this. And when you're ready for that conversation, call (208) 656-2322 or visit windriverins.com.

One of the most common insurance mistakes parents make this time of year is adding a teen to the household's vehicle before the policy has been reviewed. Not intentionally, just under the assumption that the policy automatically handles it. It may. It may not and the gap between those two outcomes matters more for teen drivers than for almost any other coverage update.

If a student in your household is getting behind the wheel this summer, a ten-minute conversation with your agent is worth having now. Not because something will go wrong because the conversation costs nothing and the alternative might cost a great deal.

Memorial Day weekend is the unofficial start of summer travel in Southeast Idaho, and the first long weekend most families actually leave town. Three coverage gaps that quietly show up this time of year: rental-car coverage at the airport (often partially extended from your auto policy, often not completely), umbrella coverage relative to what you could actually be liable for while traveling, and boat or RV coverage when the asset leaves your property and ends up at a campsite or on a trailer.

None of these are emergencies.
All three are 10-minute phone calls to close.

Over years of review calls, the most useful question has stayed the same: what has changed in your life since this policy was written?

Almost every gap we catch traces back to something the policy could not have known about — a new driver, a new home feature, a new side business, a new vehicle, a new hobby with a new set of risks. Policies don't auto-update. Lives quietly outgrow them. That is what a review fixes, and it is usually a 10-minute conversation.

Save this so it comes to mind at your next renewal.

Today we remember the men and women who gave their lives in service to our country, and the families who carry that loss every day. Quiet on the feed today.

Homeowners insurance is one of the biggest protections most families have, yet many people have never fully reviewed what their policy actually covers.

In simple terms, your policy usually includes coverage for your home, other structures, personal belongings, liability, and specific exclusions like flood damage, earth movement, wear and tear, or certain mold situations.

One detail that matters more than most people realize is whether your policy covers replacement cost or actual cash value. One helps rebuild or replace what you lost at today’s cost. The other factors in depreciation. That difference can have a major impact during a claim.

If you are not sure what your policy includes, your renewal is a great time to review it and make sure your coverage still fits your needs.

Not every home project affects your insurance the same way. 🏡

Major upgrades like a new roof, finished basement, remodel, or added square footage can change what your policy should cover and may even qualify for discounts. Cosmetic updates like paint, fixtures, or landscaping usually do not impact coverage the same way.

The important thing is knowing which projects are worth reviewing with your agent so your policy keeps up with your home. A quick conversation now can help prevent coverage gaps later.

One of the most common insurance mistakes is assuming you're covered for more than you actually are. Having homeowners insurance doesn't always mean full protection, every policy has limits, details, and exclusions.

Sub-limits on jewelry, electronics, or cash. Separate deductibles for wind and hail. Flood and earth movement often excluded entirely.

The difference between "replacement cost" and "actual cash value" showing up on a total-loss check. None of this is a reason to panic. It is a reason to pull the policy out and actually read it, or to sit down with your agent and walk through what is in there.

A quick review now can prevent costly surprises later.

Side-by-sides are one of the most commonly uninsured toys in Southeast Idaho. Most families assume their auto policy or homeowners policy covers the UTV out in the shop and for stationary theft on the property, homeowners often does.

The gap shows up the moment the machine leaves the driveway.

Liability on a trail, collision with another rider, even theft off a trailer at a trailhead. Those are typically not personal-auto coverages.

A recreational vehicle policy is usually a modest add-on and closes the gap cleanly. Worth a quick review if you bought or upgraded one this spring.
