✨Get to Know Her✨ Purely Pilates Owner, Instructor, & Balanced Body Educator...Our mama bear & fierce leader, Christin! 💜
Christin is a Educator and Nationally Certified Pilates Teacher. Her passion for strength and movement were foreshadowed throughout her years as a gymnast and competitive cheerleader.🤸♀️ She went on to coach competitive cheerleading in college and became an ACSM certified personal trainer in 2004. In January of 2009, Christin started the Balanced Body teachers training program as a way to cultivate excellence through knowledge in her field. Through the years she has enjoyed pursuing many different movement certifications including becoming a Pink Ribbon Breast Cancer Exercise Specialist, CoreBarre Instructor, TRX training, Spiral Spine Scoliosis training and Lagree training. Her primary focus and methods revolve around injury prevention and total body strength through proper alignment.
Though a stickler for form, Christin’s goal in every class is to help you “trick your muscles” and have FUN doing it. 👏 She is a firm believer that experiencing joy in the process of self care is essential to living a whole and balanced life. She enjoys many outdoor activities such as snowboarding, camping, hiking, biking, watersports and anything fitness related. She whole-heartedly believes and lives her life by Joseph Pilates’ quote “Physical fitness is the first requisite of happiness”. Christin loves working with people from all walks of life and has experience with everyone from teenage athletes to elderly folks. Her favorite thing in the world is connecting with people that want to work hard, learn and improve!! Her style is progressive, yet simple. She believes exercises and workouts don't have to be crazy to be effective: "Joe really knew what he was doing with his classical movements"😉
In May of 2022 Christin became the proud new owner of Purely Pilates, and she has been a masterful leader, goofball, and support system for her team every step of the way. We are truly so lucky to call her ours! 🥹
Christin's Favorites:
🐾 She's a major lover of doggies 🐶 and really all critters 🦔
🥗 She enjoys yummy healthy food 😇 but her guilty pleasure is chips of any kind 😈
🦮 Her favorite ways to spend time are walking her doggies & having her nose in a good book🤓

🚵♂️ CLIENT HIGHLIGHT✨ Our buddy, Dan Thornton!
He’s a fifth-generation Nevadan whose ancestors homesteaded in the Truckee Meadows in the 1860s, so his Nevada roots run pretty deep. Dan’s had a wide-ranging journey so far, from being a professional snowboarder after high school to working in the gaming and hospitality industry. He attended university in his 40’s and earned a BA in Interdisciplinary Studies, with concentrations in Environmental Studies, Peace Studies, and Traditional Eastern Arts from Naropa University in Colorado.
Over the years, besides Reno and Carson City, where he currently lives with his family, he has also lived in places like Greece, Maryland, Donner Lake, Lake Tahoe, Jackson Hole, Sun Valley/Ketchum, and Boulder. These days, he spends a lot of time mountain biking, skiing, gardening, and trying to stay strong enough to keep doing the things he loves. We asked him some questions about his Pilates journey.
Dan originally started doing Pilates over twenty years ago, then took about an 18-year break before starting back up here at Purely Pilates. Coming back to it, he says, has been one of the best decisions he's ever made. He started realizing that although he has always been active, he's also always been inflexible, and was losing even more of his flexibility. It was becoming more challenging to even bend over and tie his shoes, *seriously*. That was not okay with him, and it's not how he wanted to continue to live.
He sought out Purely Pilates thanks to a massage therapist recc two years ago, and we're so glad he did!--"There are not really the right words to explain how much I have enjoyed practicing Pilates with Christin and the whole Purely Pilates family. Purely Pilates Rocks!"
Since coming back to Pilates, he notes his flexibility and strength have both increased, and he's able to stay very active without unreasonable soreness or injuries. This past season was one of the best ski seasons he's had in years, he says, because he's stronger than he's been in many seasons. ⛷️ He also mountain bikes pretty seriously, usually 3–5 times a week, and the strength, flexibility, and balance work have helped there as well.
When it comes to his favorite Pilates exercise, it depends on the day, but he loves slow and steady bridges, especially with the ball: "They kick my butt, but my glutes and abs can always use the work."
Dan is a bright light in our studio and we are SO lucky to have him!

You know her, you adore her, you still feel her the next day🔥 ...Get to know our ‘Pulse Princess’, Laura!
With an upbringing in dance & gymnastics, Laura has been sharpening her Pilates skills for 12+ years. As a lover of learning, her degrees in French & Political Science from UNR have taken her down career paths of teaching, marketing, & graphic design, eventually leading her down the path of nursing during the Covid-19 pandemic. Laura is an RN with experience in Labor & Delivery, peri-operative nursing, as well as home health, hormone/weightloss & concierge nursing. Versatile & well-rounded, Laura’s knowledge & skills in healthcare pair beautifully with her Pilates philosophy and instruction. While she always knew she might venture down the Pilates career path, it wasn’t until she obtained a neck injury in early 2023 that she knew she needed to change her life trajectory. Through both her nursing experience & personal journey with PT and injury recovery, she brings a uniquely fun & informed perspective to teaching Pilates.
Laura brings high-energy & enthusiasm to every class, creating intentionally progressive flows that challenge the whole body. She is a form fanatic, protecting against injury and ensuring that her students leave every class feeling stronger & more aligned. Laura is nearing the completion of her Comprehensive Pilates Certification through our program & we’re grateful to have had her teaching with us for over two years! Now, everyone go pressure her to get over her nerves & test out already! 🫣🤪

The Magic Circle ⭕️ (aka Pilates Ring, circle of death, ring of fire, etc.) You know her, you love her (and maybe you *secretly* loathe her 😉) but it is certainly one of our absolute favorite props 🙌 As one of Joe's original creations, the Circle provides deeper connection to your Pilates experience, helping with inner thigh activation, shoulder alignment, deep core connection, upper body training...you name it. Of course it's great for kicking the work up a notch & adding more challenge, but it's real beauty lies in its ability to deepen the work as a whole.
So tell us, do you love her or hate her? ❤️

"My instructor made sure to come over and correct my movements throughout the class to help ensure I was doing the movements correctly. She even made sure at the start of class to come and show me how to properly use the equipment. Which was much different from another studio I had gone to in the past. The instructor was also energetic and seemed like she enjoys what she does." - Kathy R.
Receiving testimonies like this is what this is all about ❤️ Making people (especially beginners) feel welcome, energized, safe and supported is what we strive for every day. We couldn't be happier to welcome you all through our doors and help you along your movement journey ☺️
