Job Description
Nevada Robotics at DRI is hiring part-time leaders to support educator robotics and drone professional development, community outreach, and competitions. Nevada Robotics is a computer science education outreach program that serves teachers and their PreK – 12th grade students. Nevada Robotics envisions an education system where all students have early and equal access to engaging and quality computer science instruction to build a foundation for their success in STEM classes, majors, and jobs.
This position is based in Reno and will support robotics and drone educator professional development, community outreach events, and competitions. Other tasks may be assigned as needed. Robotics Outreach Leaders (ROLs) will work some evenings and weekends. Hours and schedules vary by the week and are based on program needs. The position includes paid travel to towns and cities in Nevada including but not limited to Carson City, Fernley, Fallon, Minden, Las Vegas, Elko, Winnemucca, Mesquite, and Ely.
Ideal candidates will have a passion for working with and supporting teachers, students, and families. ROLs will work closely with teachers, children from ages PreK – 12th grade, and community members. Nevada Robotics is seeking education leaders who are positive problem solvers, creative thinkers, and life-long learners. Candidates should be excellent communicators who are excited to learn new technical skills. No experience with computer science, robotics, or drones is necessary. Paid onboarding and training are provided. This position may be a good fit for retired teachers and those who want consistent but flexible hours. Total hours worked per week will typically average 15 but may be as high as 30 - 35 during travel weeks.

with support from and the Nevada Agricultural Foundation offered a Books and Bots refresher course for . Books and Bots workshops utilize storybooks and coding to teach learning concepts. Douglas County PreK - 5th grade teachers used robots as tools and explored ways to teach computer science, literacy, and math standards. The workshop's featured book was Right This Very Minute: A table-to-farm book about food and farming by Feeding Minds Press. All trainees received books for their classrooms and for their 437 students to grow their home libraries. Happy reading!

With support from an Governor’s Office of Science, Innovation and Technology grant, is collaborating with Clark County School District staff to develop and write a 20-lesson scope and sequence plan for using VEX GO in the school’s third-grade classrooms. The lessons will be designed to fit appropriately into the school’s larger robotics and computer science scope and sequence for grades K-5 and will meet the Nevada Computer Science and Integrated Technology Standards . The lessons will support coding and robotics as a way to build a strong foundation in core classes and technology.
