Redlands Community Hospital's Emergency Department is proud to be Autism Friendly Designation Certified, reflecting our commitment to providing compassionate, inclusive care for individuals with autism of all ages. This designation recognizes our team's specialized training and the accommodations available to support patients and families throughout their healthcare experience.

In this employee spotlight, we recognize Jenn Dover, whose passion and personal experience helped champion this important initiative. As both a healthcare professional and mother, Jenn understands the impact of autism-friendly care and shares why this designation is so meaningful to her and the families we serve.

"Achieving our Autism-Friendly Designation in the Emergency Department is deeply meaningful to me, both personally and professionally," said Jenn. "My son, Silas, was diagnosed with Level 2 autism at the age of three, and that journey opened my eyes to the challenges families often face when seeking environments that truly understand and support individuals with autism."

Jenn adds, "Medical settings can be overwhelming and stressful for any child, and even more so for those with unique sensory and communication needs. Every parent wants their child to feel accepted, understood, and cared for with compassion. That is why this designation is important, it helps ensure that families receive the understanding and support they deserve during some of their most vulnerable moments.

I am incredibly grateful to work for an organization that recognized this need and empowered me to help make this vision a reality. Together, we are creating a more inclusive and welcoming experience for every patient and family who walks through our doors."

Sunday is National Cancer Survivors Day and Redlands Community Hospital (RCH) wants to celebrate the strength, courage and resilience of all survivors like Evalyn Velazquez.🩷

As a back-office medical assistant and phlebotomist at The Redlands Community Hospital Center for Cancer Care, Evalyn was used to taking care of patients when she unexpectedly found herself on the other side of care when she discovered a lump in her breast and was diagnosed with stage 2 triple-negative breast cancer. At 30 years old and a mother of four, Evalyn was determined entering chemotherapy and trusted the colleagues she worked alongside every day to guide her treatment journey.

“During the whole process, I felt comfortable and safe,” she said. “I trusted my team and that took a lot of the fear away.”

After completing Chemotherapy and radiation, Evalyn continues her journey with ongoing immunotherapy. She credits her survival to her doctor and nurses who provided compassionate and deeply personal care and the love of her daughters and encouraging husband who carried her through those tough times.

This National Cancer Survivors Day, we honor Evalyn and all the survivors who remind us of the importance of early detection, compassionate care and human resilience.🩷❤️

🌼 Please join us in recognizing DAISY Award Honoree George Perez! 💜

George was nominated for the extraordinary compassion, empathy, and dedication he showed while caring for a patient experiencing withdrawals and seeking treatment. During an incredibly stressful situation, George not only provided comfort and support to the patient, but also stepped in to help coordinate a difficult transfer process — going far beyond his role to ensure the patient received the care they needed.

The patient later shared that George was a key person in their recovery journey and is now 110 days sober.

“With this population, that is the difference between life and death.”

Thank you, George, for the compassion and commitment you show to patients and coworkers every day.
