Your actions can have a profound effect on others. I am humbled to have received these beautiful flowers, as I did nothing to deserve them. A simple act of kindness can make a significant difference. Everyone you meet is facing their own challenges. Be kind.

If you’re out on the hiking trails enjoying California’s summer weather, be on the lookout for rattlesnakes.

They mostly avoid humans and retreat from perceived threats. But if they’re cornered or their escape route is blocked, they can be dangerous!

So what should you do if you get bitten by a rattlesnake?

Call 911 and get to a hospital as soon as possible! Antivenom can reduce significant injury from a rattlesnake bite, but it’s only available in a hospital setting.

You can also call the Poison Hotline at 1-800-222-1222. The hotline is available 24-hours a day, 365 days a year. If your pet gets bitten by a rattlesnake, contact a veterinarian right away!

For 18 years – since she was a senior in high school – Terrianne Zonca dealt with fainting spells a few times a year. Doctors never found out why. As she went from an active teenager to a professional dancer, the theory was that she exhausted herself. The fact she often forgot to eat breakfast or drink enough water supported the theory.

Then her heart stopped at her grandfather's funeral. That forced doctors to take a closer look. While Terrianne was still in an induced coma recovering from the cardiac arrest, they discovered that she had a rare condition called long QT syndrome, a disorder of the heart's electrical system that can cause irregular and potentially fatal heartbeats.

To keep her heart safe, doctors implanted an implantable cardioverter defibrillator in her chest that monitors for any abnormal rhythms and can shock her heart back into a normal rhythm.

Since her cardiac arrest, Terrianne has become an advocate for the American Heart Association and is a regular at Heart Walks, sharing her story with others and the importance of CPR.

"Had my cousins not stepped in the split second they did, doctors said I would not have made it," she said. "They saved my family from having to figure out another funeral."

I can't believe it's been two years since my singleton River was born. Happy birthday to my talking boy. He definitely has a unique personality. Fear of balloons and the water. He will start genetics testing to see if he is stud material.
